I think all the girls in gray with green or yellow shoes (let them pick which color so it's mixed) would be very pretty.
Otherwise, letting them pick is probably better. Yellow can be a tricky color to wear.
Yellow can be tricky...especially if you are pale...it would be nice to let them pick if you had like every other but if not I would just choose it for them...I think green looks pretty good on most people. I do LOVE the idea of having grey with either green or yellow shoes...I think grey with yellow shoes would look amazing!
My bridesmaid dresses are yellow, and my maids run from pale to unnaturally tan (sorry, that's a mean thing to say but it's true) and they all look good in the dress. I think it depends on the shade of yellow. It's my favorite color, so I obviously have no qualms about it.
I think gray dresses with yellow shoes would look great! I like that idea.
I think letting the pale wear the green and tan wear yellow is a great idea and wonderful compromise! I'm in a wedding this summer with orange and coral dresses, I'm tan so I'll be in an orange dress. I am 100% okay with this! I think yellow is such a fresh and pretty color! :)
Since it's an outdoor wedding, I don't know if green would compliment or clash with the setting (it will be in the woods.) I could always talk to my bridesmaids and see which ones they would prefer. I'm guessing pale will pick green and tan will pick yellow.
I am loving the idea of gray. That won't be too drab will it? They can always wear green shoes and hold yellow boquets. So many choices! This is the first thing I've really planned besides the venue.
KansasPrincess- I loove coral! It is so flattering on everyone :)
@LittleAudrey: I know! Coral is a really beautiful color! Darn my tan skin for not letting me wear it ;)
Could you do a grey bridesmaid dress that maybe has a yellow sash? I think that would be cute too.
I love yellow, but my mom always told me to never wear it because it washed me out. However, I feel that it depends on the shade. I say go to a bridal shop to try on BM dresses and try out yellow, green and gray and see what you think then. You might be surprised, a friend of mine did yellow and it was beautiful!
Yellow is a difficult colour. But there's ways around it. What about pewter dresses with yellow sashes and shoes and green bouquets? That could be a great spring type look. :D
I'm a pale girl that looks good in yellow, I say if you want yellow, have yellow!
Oh I love the idea of the grey dress with a sash! I think that grey and yellow is so pretty! I've seen some really great fabrics with those colors!
Thanks for all the feedback. We're doing a fitting in June, so I'll have them try each color and we'll take a vote!
I think it depends on the girl, but to be safe, only my jr bridesmaid is wearing yellow. The rest of the girls are wearing our other color.
I would discuss it with them all together. Some might be adamantly against the yellow but some might want to wear it. Bring up your dilemma to them and hopefully they can come up with a solution that works for all of them and you!
I love yellow and green! I think yellow is a completely lovely color! I think the mixed dress color idea is fun, but also considerate to everyone's skintones and coloring. I really don't think you can go wrong with that!

So my wedding colors are canary yellow and sort of a fresh medium green, very springy. I haven't decided what colors the bridesmaids should wear. I kind of like the idea of letting them pick between the two, but I don't want it to look goofy. My FMIL pointed out that yellow might be unflattering (don't worry, no drama. I love this woman.) Two of my bridesmaids are quite tan and two are quite pale.
What do you think?
Green dress yellow shoes? Tan girls wear yellow, pale girls wear green? I don't want to single out anyone, and am quite pale myself and think it's lovely.
I'm also toying with adding a cool gray to the pallete. I think gray dresses with green or yellow shoes would look awesome. Any advice?
