Since I’ve announced that I’m engaged, I’ve had a few close family members (mom, aunt, grandma) offer me a lot of things from their wedding. Some has been very flexible (my aunt gave me her veil, and told me to feel free to alter it however necessary), and others have been less flexible (my mom has told me about 15x I HAVE to use her cake topper, she bought it almost 30 years ago with the plan of passing it to her kids, etc). I’ve also been lent purses, jewelery, and a garter.
Overall, I think I’m very happy to have the option of using it (though really I feel like I SHOULD use it all unless I really don’t like it, for budget reasons and to avoid hurt feelings). Occasionally though, it occurs to me that my aunt/mom/grandma didn’t use much of other people’s things, and they each got to pick out all their own new stuff – which makes me ever so slightly jealous as well! I think I’m happy though, as long as I have my own, brand new wedding dress! 😀
So what about everyone else? Have you had people offer you stuff? Are you going to use it?

Both of our parents still happily married, so I wanted to incorporate something from each of their weddings. We are using my FI’s parents champagne glasses from their original wedding. We are also using my parents cake knife from their wedding.

i used part of my mom’s dress to wrap my bouquet in. and my mil gave me a family bible that everyone in their family carries down the aisle and signs, starting from 1946. my grandma gave me jewelry that my grandpa gave her for their anniversary.
our wedding had a vintage feel and had a lot of family history (our table numbers were old family wedding photos, our chuppah was made from a tallit from both of our grandpa’s, etc.), so i loved having different things from our families. plus it does save a lot of money!

I was the opposite of you. I didn’t have anything passed down from anyone. I think it would be nice to be able to say “That’s Aunt SonSo’s veil” or “The cake topper was my mother’s.” I’m really sentimental though, so I might be biased!
