"Our Song" was off the soundtrack from Shrek.. um yeah not exactly wedding material. So we decided to do a classic redone by a comtemporary- we did Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney but redone by Jem. It worked out fine... whatever song you guys choose it'll only be 3 minutes (don't go longer, it feels MUCH longer than it is!) and no one will really remember it besides you guys anyway!
wow. very interesting!!! my hubby is a HUGE metallica fan and finds that interesting - but would never. that's cool that it works for you though!!!!
not sure ours isn't "normal"...but not sure of how many people have used it or if it ever has been used...but i'm a HUGE fan of the movie "Moulin Rouge" and we are using "Come What May" as our first dance.
We've chosen one not typical of weddings too! We will be doing our first dance to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen!
I knew I wasnt the only one out there with an out of the norm song.
@gretchin405 I love that song!
Dave Matthew's You and Me- just a great all around song, and we liked that the tempo changes, it made dancing to it more interesting.
We haven't picked a song yet, but all the songs on our list are of the more indie persuasion... so I guess that makes them not normal "wedding songs".
Ours is "Say Hey (I love you)" by Michael Franti & Spearhead. Not exactly traditional but we think it's super fun.
We're doing a hiphop medley (Boyz II Men, Heavy D, Biv Bell Devoe, etc) along with Jason Mraz "Lucky" so yeah, I'd say it's different :)
I would have to say most of the music we are playing isn't typically the norm for weddings, except maybe the songs we pick for the father/bride and mother/groom dance. some our unusual songs:
First Dance: "Dismantle.Repair" - Anberlin
Bridal Party: "The Glory of Love" -Say Anything
Garter Toss: "Yes Yes Yes" -Foxy Shazam
I'm also surprising my FI by singing "the only exception" by Paramore to him while one of my BM's plays it on acoustic guitar. I guess that is pretty unusual too.
@JennHasFeet- I love The Glory of Love! That is a stellar song choice!
haha, thanks Emerald! most of my bridal party laughed when i told them what song we were all going to dance to but one...she's not real familiar with Say Anything and is super traditional, so she thought i was kidding. so totallly not.
I am all for non traditional songs! Really how many times can someone dance to "At last" without it getting old?
If we would have had a traditonal reception we would have danced to CCR's "Long As I Can See The Light". Not really a strong love song but meaning you always find your way home no matter what or where. I hope people know who CCR is :) We had friends that did Pink Floyd and it was awesome! My DH would have loved the Metallica idea but we definetly would have some guests pop in for guitar solos and such!
I say go for it!
@Aleanan - I love that song, but the boy doesn't. Sigh.
We're not having a first dance, but if we were, we'd probably dance to "Lover's Waltz" by A.A. Bondy:

Or else "Marry Song" by Band of Horses.

Ours is definitely not traditional. We're dancing to "The Man in Me" by Bob Dylan aka the song from the beginning of The Big Lebowski where they are all bowling ;o)
Everything Changes by Staind. It may not seem appropriate but it's our song and the only thing I wouldn't bend on in wedding planning. All of our music truly represents us, it's one of the things I look most forward to.
Band of Horses is AMAZING. We are going to have "Part One-Savannah" played somewhere during our wedding....not sure where yet..
Forever & Always (Acoustic) - Bullet For My Valentine
Not completely bridal ;)
@Inkypoo: I'm thinking about having 'nothing else matters' by Metallica played on the classical guitar during my unity candle lighting part!!!! Just the thought of having a Metallica song played during my ceremony makes me SO EXCITED.
Best wishes
@hotchildinthecity: LOVE that song!!
Ours will be "If Not For You" by George Harrison. It's uptempo and just sounds joyus to me in parts. I also love the lyrics :)
I THINK we're going to have "Dancing in the Moonlight" by Thin Lizzy. I have no idea how that's going to work for actual dancing, but it's definitely one of our songs. The next best "our song" is "Jackie Wilson Said" by Van Morrison, which I would also secretly love to have!
I don't know if it's super unconventional, but no one ever has my song, which is Lenny Kravitz-I Belong To You. I love it.

I'm asking this because I know ours isn't. Originally I wanted something classical that we could take dance lessons and learn the waltz for. He wanted something by Metallica. We met in the middle and decided on a lullabye rendetion of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, which is like the ONLY love songish song by Metallica. After hearing it one million and five times I made the decision that I wanted the original Metallica Nothing Else Matters and I want to dance the waltz to it. Seriously listen to it and imagine. Crazy.
What is the song you and your FI have chosen and why?
