He and I are pretty much getting matching rings. Not on purpose. I have a engagement ring with a split shank. I wasn't going to get a wedding band for that reason, but I wanted a white gold wedding band to travel with, for the exchange, and because I plan on going into the medical field (most don't allow diamond rings because they are harder to keep clean). Our rings both just 14kt white gold with the edges round. Mines 3mm and his is 6mm.
Later on after the wedding band we are getting me an eternity band.
Not matching at all! Mine are platinum and kind of antiquey looking, his is tungsten and very modern/manly.

We got matching plain white gold bands. The only difference is that his is 5mm thick and mine is 2mm.
Ours will be matching (we both will have a plain white gold band and a delicate sparkly 1/2 eternity band) but we are both women, so it's a little different. : ) Also, I have an engagement ring and she is wearing her plain band as hers.
Completely different - mine is platinum and, for some reason, FI is set on yellow gold - I tried to convince him to go with white gold or platinum and then realized its his ring so he should get what he wants!
@msfahrenheit: this is exactly what we were thinking of getting.
we wanted to both get white gold but now i'm thinking maybe he should get platinum or palladium because it won't discolor and even if the platinum dulls a bit that would look OK on a men's ring. what do you think?
however, we like the idea of matching rings.
I voted matching, since it's MORE matching than not... If that makes sence. His is white gold, mine is white gold with small diamonds that match my e-ring band. So, same main material, just mine has some diamonds in part of the band. And his is WAY thicker.
His is dark tungsten with an infinity design, and mine is white gold with diamond baguettes to match my ering
Total mismatch - mine is a delicate yellow gold eternity band, his is a thick black tungsten carbide band. We both got what we like and what fits our own style.
I have white gold and he has sterling silver. They look the same. People comment on his ring all the time and say "I can tell it is solid gold!" and I think he just smiles. Mine has two triangles and his is a triangle (trillion) cut stone. I made his and he won mine, but they match. It is pretty cool.
