    Hi NC bees,

I'm looking for jeweler for two things. First, I need someone to look at my engagement ring. It was my Grandmothers and we had to get it moved up about 3 sizes and now I'm worried about it...it's not very sturdy.

Also, I'm looking for someone who can add screwbacks to diamond earrings.

I would prefer to go to someone who isn't a chain in the mall, but someone who works on jewelry rather than just sells it.

    Thanks! :)

@jillocb:  The treasure trove in Cary towne center is my go to for a jeweler.  FI bought my engagement ring at their sister store NY jewelry in North Gate mall.  I just brought my mom's wedding band in to have it "slimmed" down and they did a great job!  Really reasonably priced.  However, it is in a mall and I know you aren't looking for that.  The guy who fixes the jewelry is there on Sundays.

Yeah, my ring is from Fink's Jeweler, also in a mall. Sorry, no good advice - most of my jewelry is from, like, Target!

I love Anfesa's Jewlers in Raleigh near Garner.  We took my rings there to get appraised and they were so nice, did not try to upsell us or anything.  They have what looks like the workshop right there in the back of the building.  If we had known about them before we bought my rings we would have probably bought from them.

Precision Platinum in Durham. They are family owned and do custom work as well as reconstruction. I also have a vintage ring and they were able to do sizing as well as some reconstruction on the ring and it turned out perfect. They are fair and will not try to upsell.

Have you heard of Perry's Emporium? I know he has shops in Wilm and Charlotte, so I'm assuming he has some in Raleigh as well. I've actually met him, and had a great impression of him: very knowledgable. Maybe you can see if he has a shop in Raleigh?

This may not apply any more, but Johnson's Jewelers in Cary is family owned, small, reputable.  My dad has shopped there for years and they've always been acommodating and helpful when my mom's jewerly has needed repair, upgrading, cleaning, etc.
