I don’t have any super visible marks from resizing but from what I understand that’s the only way to size it up.

@2013septemberbride:  I had my ring sized up and I couldn’t see any color variations where the solder is, but I can see what your jeweler is saying.

IF you can see the color variation from solder, it will be so subtle.  you will have to scruitinize your ring in the sunlight and even then you’ll barely be able to see it. plus it’s at the bottom of the ring, which gets quickly scratched up anyway. I think you need to let this minor detail slide.

other methods for sizing up: if your ring is a simple solitaire w/ a plain band (no details in it), then they could resize it by stretching the metal. or they could file out the inside to make it bigger. but these ways are not always ideal, as it would make the band thinner.

@2013septemberbride:  if you chose to have the ring filed from the inside, for the most part It will probably look almost exactly the same and not really change the design. the issue I was thinking about is whether it might make the ring too thin and easily bent. if your ring is already fairly thick, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

I work at a jewelry store and unfortunately that is the only way to size a ring up. The sizing piece is always the same metal(if done right) and we have never had a customer ever notice the seam or color difference in the ring. Usually the piece is put in at the bottom of the ring so noone will ever see it. I wouldnt worry about them sizing it up, if you had a  new ring made now you will probably have to have it resized at some point in the future anyways so I would save the money 🙂 hope that helps!

I can’t relate directly except to say that my fiance bought the ring they had in the store, which was pretty close to the right size. They just had to make it a tad smaller. I noticed almost right away when I got the ring that is has some scratches on the side of the band. I have never brought it up because I know no one else will ever notice it and I figure it wil be taken care of the next time I get it taken in to be replated.
