Awww congrats! The dress is beautiful, and I bet you can't wait to try it on! I love the double V neck, very pretty :)
It's GORGEOUS! I'm so happy for you!
Not only is it beautiful, but you got a great deal on it too! Love the lines on it.
Oooo pretty! And your excitement shines through in this post. I hope when you finally do get to put it on that it is everything you want it to be! :)
It reminds me of a Mori Lee dress I tried on with the straps and ruching and buttons, though I recall from your pictures on here that you are, um, "bustier" than I, so I think you will totally rock that silhouette!!!

It looks amazing! I cant wait for you to try it on and show us pictures! I am so excited for you! And really happy your Chinese experience turned out great. I hope it fits great and meets your expectations. YAY, congrats!
@amaryllis - actually I'm not busty at all! But vneck looks great on me :) probably because my shoulders are so mushy, haha. I'm hoping that this v is slightly deeper than the one in your pic - but you're right, that dress is totally similar!
Really? Aw, I feel bad; maybe I misremember. Sorry! V-necks do tend to be sooo flattering, though. They keep in the busty and build up the bustless!
@amaryllis - don't feel bad! I misremember stuff about people all the time :) the 'bee is hard to keep up with!
thanks for all of your kind words ladies :)
Now I'm just looking forward to trying her on and getting some alterations done!
The dress looks amazing. It must be so hard to wait until July to try it. Fortunately you have the beautiful pictures.
What a beautiful Dress! I hope all works out for you! Keep us updated and let us know how the measurements turn out :)
Oh wow, looks like the did a great job. I bet you can't wait to try it on! Its a beautiful dress :)
Oh it looks GOOD!!!! I bought a dress from China and my measurements came back SO F*ed up. It was too short (even though I told her i wanted it made for a 6'2" tall woman) and 5" too small in the hips. It was so off it wasn't even funny.
But yours looks awesome!
Your dress looks like it turned out great! Can't wait to see it on you!
Awwwww, it looks great! (Ignore my question in your other post asking for a piccy of the dress.) Very pretty! And good idea to get your momma to take some measurements. I ordered a dress from overseas in the beginning of my planning, but it turns out the shoulders were too narrow (cap sleeve dress)-- but then again, I'm like Amazonian sized, so my measurements were probably off the charts. I ended up selling it on eBay, so no money lost there. :)
Haha. I love Oprah's reaction to your dress.
It's very pretty! I am also getting a custom made dress!
Ok now you've inspired me to go back to the china route . . . I've waffled back anf forth. I totally posted here to get custom dress experience opinions and hopefully the hive can give some sound advice!
@robin - I know, apparently mom couldn't turn oprah off long enough to snap a few pics... haha.
Thanks for all of your kind words ladies! It sounds like the measurements are okay - the waist is a bit bigger than it needs to be (see how thick it looks?!) but everything is is pretty much spot on. :)
Yay!
Just wondering, if you live in China, why did you decide to order online instead of having the dress made to your measurements in person?
@slicey - valid question! I live in NE China; the wedding dress industry is very centralized in SE China. It would be like flying from Chicago to NY to get there, and into a city I've never been to.
I considered working with a tailor here where I live, but I've had quite a few pieces of clothing made here already (since I can't buy anything off the rack here - my body is way too big for it! I wear a M in America and an XXL here, haha), and overall the quality of the clothes I've made has been so entirely hit or miss... not really a risk I wanted to take with my wedding dress. Plus I've never seen the quality of fabric I wanted here, and would have had to go to a bigger city to import it - and I don't know much about fabric.
Ordering from a Southern vendor, as if I were in America, on the other hand, I was able to find a seller located in the heart of where most American designers have their dresses made - so I know that the good quality fabrics are available there (probably made there and thus wholesale). I also have reason to believe that at least some of the seamstresses working for replica companies have experience working for non-replica companies making wedding dresses - so even though my American style and expectations are vastly different from those of the Chinese making the dress, I know that they have experience in what Americans want and expect. They know the standards to which I will hold my dress, if that makes sense.
Your dress looks great!
I've never even thought about ordering from China, but the prices are so affordable that even if it turned out terrible the loss wouldn't be too hard to swallow. Hmmm..
Hey, thanks for the detialed answer. I never knew the wedding dress industry in China was so centralized but I guess it makes sense. You made a great choice though because yours looks really nice, be sure to post photos when you try it on. I totally understand the size thing, I visited Japan last year and couldn't buy any clothes because everything only came in a M and it was more like a US XS/S. I was shocked to see shoes only came in 2 popular sizes at most stores as well!
slicey, don't even get me started on trying to buy shoes here... I wear a size 41Chinese (about a 9US) and shoe stores carry up to a 39. You have to go to a specialty store to get bigger than that, or buy men's. I have (Chinese) friends who have feet the same size as mine who cram their feet into shoes 2 sizes too small every day and have bone damage in their toes because of it. *fashion* argh it drives me crazy!
I absolutely love the first picture.. looks like Oprah is shocked at how beautiful your dress is.
Wow, it turned out great! Can't wait to see the pics of you in it- nice job!

My China made dress arrived at my mother's house today. Here're the pics she sent me. According to her, "It was in a small plastic bag type package, so it is a little wrinkled. It is a creamier white, rather than a white white. The fabric is soft with a slight sheen to it. It is very beautiful, like the one photo you sent me. :)"
Aww, mama I about cried when I read your email, haha.
And the photos.
I won't have a chance to try it on until July, because I'm still here, but Mom is going to take some measurements for me to make sure it's not TOTALLY out of whack, and a friend who has made wedding dresses before (for her daughter, etc.) has offered to do the alterations, so I feel confident about that. Even if something needs to be changed, she should be able to help with it.
I never fell in love with a dress, I put on hundreds (literally) and never felt that gut feeling of 'this is it' - but seeing these pictures my heart is surging. I am incredibly happy.
I took every element that I liked about the various dresses I tried on that I DID love - v neck, deep v back, buttons on the back, bubble hem, drop waist, symmetrical ruching - and put them into one dress. Okay, I found a dress that had them all, way out of my miniscule price range, and then I found a company with consistently good reviews from thousands of brides before me - April Bridal. Jeff Liu was easy to work with, friendly, helpful, very quick to respond to my emails. His English was relatively good and the only time I used Chinese with him was when I wish him a happy QingMing Jie (a Chinese holiday that passed the day before my dress shipped). He sent me a tracking number with the dress and shipping was included in my fee. Some of his dresses include shipping fees, others don't, but all are affordable.
I know buying a custom dress off ebay, from overseas, isn't for everyone. But I strongly recommend April Bridal if you choose to go this route.
I'll upload pics of me in her when I can. (i.e. July, so don't hold your breath, haha).
