June 5th came and went…bringing an absolute dream wedding day. It started off with thunder, lightening, and rain but quickly became sunny, dry, and warm. I had decided a long time ago that I would not stress about wedding plans, that I would stay present and enjoy every moment of the wedding process, and that I would count my blessings. The wedding and reception were outdoors and it was a real DIY event, right down to our food. We planned and made everything. We reminded ourselves to be flexable, open, and hold a strong sense of humor. In the end we spent so little in terms of dollars but put so much ourselves into everything that we are still hearing that it was the nicest, most meaningful, and fun wedding that people have ever attended…major blessing counting! Early on in the planning, which seems like a lifetime ago, I was a little concerned because I am an older bride. I’ll be 40 this year. This is an encore wedding for me, a first for my husband. I am also a mother of two and I have just returned to graduate school. I worried for the first month of our planning. Then, as I mentioned earlier, that I changed my mind and decided that we would only enjoy our wedding, the entire process, regardless of what it would bring. Since it was a DIY affair a good attitude and faith were key ingredients. For example, I was surprising my husband-to-be and all the guests by arriving in my late grandfathers antique caddie. all my aunts and uncles had arrived at their weddings in this car, and it has been about 15 years since we had all seen it. I was 9 when I last rode in the car myself. My brother was going to drive me, my Maid/Matron of Honor (my daughter), my son (he was walking me up the aisle), my flower girls, and ring bearer right up to the aisle…a total surprise to everyone but those us in the car. Well the music started playing the other attendants were descending the stairs on cue when we realized that we had locked ourselves out of the car and it was running. I could have cried but instead I burst out laughing. We took some great impromtu photos while our videographer broke into the car for us (he was awesome!!). Somehow we still arrived while the music was playing and the delay only heightened the suspense. The day was flawless because we saw it that way, and that perception caught on. anyway here are some photos that my cousin took. I’ll post the pro-pics when we get them. Please be kind when noticing my ‘laugh lines’ I will be 40 after all 😉 and they are the result of many years of happiness. I can only hope to be nicely wrinkled when I am deep into my old age 😉 thank you wedding bee for being one of my most helpful ‘wedding attendants’!!
Hmmm, I tried to embed the slideshow but it didn’t work. Here is the link:

Thank you ceamoste! I am not sure if I look like i’ll be 40 or not but I certainly don’t feel like it 😉 thank you everyone for taking the time to see the photos. it was such a special day and I can’t wait for the pro-pics to come!! I also found out that we may be in a wedding magazine! Not a national journal, more of a regional magazine. Its called Bride and Groom. The writer called and wants to feature encore weddings and older brides. The issue comes out in the fall so we’ll see what gets put in. Very exciting!

oh my gosh Goldilocks you are so sweet! the way I see it, we (women) just get better as we get older when we choose too. I think they say a good woman is like a fine wine, we get better with age. My husband is 5 years younger than I am and has always liked older women but I have always liked older men until I met him. He has quite a story and has been through a lot, which is why, and trust me I hate to admit this, but sometimes he is more mature than I am. So I guess we just split the difference lol!
