My FH is Italian, we are going to Italy for our honeymoon, and our reception hall is run by Italians so we are doing an Italian themed wedding and I was thinking of giving out either mini bottles of wine, wine glasses, miniture olive oils, or Italian truffles.

Question: anyone have any other ideas?

Question: which would you prefer to have?  I don't want to give out anything they won't like.

Question #2: has anyone found decently priced mini bottles of wine?

Thanks so much bees!!

I am also thinking about doing an Italian themed wedding and have been thinking of ideas for favors, ironically enough, they are the same ideas as you :) In my research so far I havn't found any cheap mini wine bottles. What I think I'm going to do are DIY mini bottles of herbed olive oil ( I can make them well in advance too) I'm searching for cheap bottles, but I think I can find some at Hobby Lobby and prob for 50% off since they have so many sales.

How much do Italian truffles usually run? Let me know what you decide on and if you find anything cheap!

What about mini bottles of limoncello? I've heard of people making it, if you're considering DYI favors.

Our friends were married in Italy last year & each room was stocked with wine, olive oil & limoncello - so I think using one of those is a great idea!

A cheap way to do wine favors - get cheap bottles of wine, peel the label off & put on your own :)  Also love the DIY olive oil idea!

How about small bottles (splits) of Italian Prosecco?  I went to a wedding where that was the favor, and everyone loved it!

Italian spices (buy in bulk) and then put them in a cute DIY bag.  Could include a receipe on the gift tag.

How about Murano glass wine stoppers?  I'm not sure where you can get them.  I remember seeing them when I was in Italy and remember thinking it would be a great wedding favor.

I love the recipe idea!  You could get a great Italian rib rub recipe, buy all the spices, then mix them yourself and put them in little jars with a cute label like "The Perfect Mix" with the recipe attached.

I also like the limoncello idea and the mini herbed olive oil.  (I wouldn't go with just plain olive oil.)

If you can make the wine thing work, that would be the most unique favor I think, as long as it's italian wine.  Mini bottles of champagne say "France" to me more than Italy.

I know they are yucky and I wouldn't want to use them myself, but Jordan Almonds are the ultimate Italian wedding favor... steeped in tons of tradition.

I prefer Prosecco or Limoncello myself ;)

Instead of prosecco you could also try to look for an Asti or Asti Spumonte since that's an Italian sparkling wine as well. I like the limoncello but I tried meloncello once and it was divine! It tasted just like a ripe cantoloupe.  Have you ever heard of Baci? I just LOVE them! I think they're very wedding appropriate since Baci means kisses in Italian and each comes with a "love note" inside of the wrapping. You could buy some of the baci and some different Italian candy and make little gift bags. But I definitely love the olive oil idea and that could be done so cheap. If you your budget allows you could also do mini bottles of balsamic and pair them together with a tag that says something like...the perfect marriage of flavors. Haha that's kind of cheesy but you get the idea.

Thank you bees, this was a lot of help!

AnnieAAA - how do go about making your own herbed olive oil??  I really like that idea, I like how personal it is!

Laura27 - I have never heard of Bacci??  Can you buy them in the states?  I like the italian candy mix, I know I enjoy a good mix of chocolate candies!!

Thanks!

No problem! Glad I could help. You know, I've actually found Baci at Gordmans in Tulsa...of all the places! They are simply delicious...dark chocolate and hazelnuts. Then the little "love notes" go something like this..."hide me inside you where the sweetest things are kept, between the roots of roses and spices"

By the way, I might mention that if you decide to go the route of making herbed oil be very careful.  If it's not stored properly it can cause botulisim...and it only lasts about 3 weeks max in the fridge. Just thought you might want to think that one over.

My Fi and I met in Italy, so we are also incorporating Italian-ish favors.  I am doing the olive oil.  Check out the link below.  The perfect olive oil bottles and you can make your own olive oil.  Good luck!   http://www.favorwarehouse.com/favors/d836.html

Tiffy1102: I plan on making an herbed olive oil that is similar to the dipping oil that they serve at Johnny Carinos (so yummy!!) and by adding a preservative like citirc acid, I can make it a few months in advance.

@ Laura27: Thanks so much for that link for the candies, I'm thinking about adding those too!

How about homemade cuccidati? It's a pretty popular italian cookie and doesn't take much to make it! :)

Such a cute idea!  Continuing with Miss Ballet Flat's idea, you could do biscotti or torrone.    I hope you'll let us know what you DO decide!

Olive   June 13, 2009  California

I am also doing an italian theme, both my fiancee and I are italian. We just found super cheap glass bottles and are making olive oil favors. My mom has a rosemary plant, and we are sticking some in each bottle to infuse the oil. I found the bottles at www.save-on-crafts.com Check it out!!

Question: I have been trying to find italian wedding ceremonial traditions. Like the Irish ring a bell, the Jewish step on a bottle, African jump a broom... what do italians do?

@Olive- the Italians also break a glass similiar to the Jewish tradition. However it is done at the reception, not at the ceremony. There is not protocal as to how the glass is broken- but the "Jewish" standard of wrapping it in a cloth napkin and stepping on it is popular. The symbolism behind this is that the bride and groom shall enjoy as many years of happiness as there are shards of glass.

We noticed that Olive Oil Bottle Favors has been a trend if you are planning an Italian wedding.  Bride and grooms are finding that these favors are very practical. Along with Olive Oil Bottles, couples are giving out Balsamic Vinegar Favors as a set. What a "Perfect Pair". Espresso Cups, spoon rests and hand painted platters are other suggestions to give out as favors.  Check out  http://www.AWeddingofaLifetime.com. If you have any questions, please ask for Anna.

Go to http://www.myitalianweddingfavors.com They have everything you would want for an italian wedding. They have oil bottles, spoon rests, pasta platters, crystal and alot more. They also have gift wrapping and favor ribbons and tags. They also have the best prices on the web. Ask for RoseAnn.

I would definitley do the olive oil because everyone can use that while cooking. But an Italian desert would be good too!

Hey to those of you needing Italian favor ideas. I grew up in a very Italian family. My grandmother is straight off the boat and cooked dinner for us every night as a child. One thing I remember were these little nouguts/torrone aka mandorlato. They came in their very own individual decorative Italian-themed boxes, which would be so cute and require no wrapping. I must warn you though, they looked so inviting I tried them again and again, but just never liked the taste of them. Everyone else in my family loves them ... maybe I'm not Italian enough? haha. Anyway, here is a picture and a link :)

@EngagedToPanda I remember eating those as a child also. I remember liking it, but I think you either love it or hate it. What a great idea for an Italian themed flavor!

Thanks for the kudos on my Idea Tessa. Yes they are truly love it or hate it! lol. BUT Love it OR Hate it, I think any guests at an Italian themed wedding will appreciate the authenticity of it (a real taste of Italy), versus some kind of truffle that your guests may not know if it's Italian or what. Or even a wine glass probably costs a lot, but is likely to get broken or thrown away. The mini wine bottles are a cute idea too, but that all depends on your budget.

If Tiff wants to incorporate the wine, I think the better place to do it would be to have a real selection of italian wine (Chianti is pretty much the signature wine of Italy) at the bar. Maybe a few different regional Chiantis? And a wine menu? When you go to Italy, check out the Italian winery's. It's pretty much Chianti, Chianti, or Chianti lol (maybe a bottle of cabernet savignon here or there.)

Oh and I found the bottles at the grocerie store.

We wanted mini champagne bottles at first, but they were pricey... so we went with sparkled water instead.

But I like the olive oil idea... :)

Little bottles of chianti (in the little casks--so cute!) or little bottles of limocello are very Italian and would definitely be used!

I just saw this at our local liquor store- it's my FAVE sparkling drink. It comes in mini-bottles that I thought would be SO CUTE as favors... unfortunately we aren't allowed to have any alcohol on tables due to IN state laws.

http://www.chibrands.com/verdi_spumante.php

It's SUPER tasty!!! Very light and slightly sweet.

Oh also the Verdi is VERY affordable.

And I'd like to add that I think italian pastries (like the cookies or cannolis) would be great too!

Il Bello Italian Favors has a great selection of imported Italian products.  My sister in law found them about 4 yrs ago and we've all been using them for our favors ever since.  They have real Murano, real argento (silver) and traditional confetti favors.  I just purchased some argento for my wedding for $7 ... you can't even get it in Italy for that price.  The ribbons to put the almonds in are sold by the roll if you want to do a a unique DIY favor these are a really a nice idea.. you can create the whole thing for like $1.30 if you get the cheaper ribbon... my family loves buying from this company.  We've put them through the mill to come up with all different kind of favors for all of our occasions and they always come through.
