Work was okay, I bought my grandma a birthday gift, and merrily went on my way home.
Frustration began when I got the dogs halfway to the park and realized one of them didn’t have their collar on.. Back to the house I go, spend 15 minutes searching, and then end up getting lost on the way back to the park to meet C there. (It was our first time going to this rural park). Then, I went to take pictures and had forgotten the SD card at home.
No biggie, but dampened my mood.
Well, 10 minutes into the trip, C tells me.. you know about the truck repairs? Well it’s going to be more. (I JUST posted about our money frustrations yesterday on the Money board!).
How much more? Like, $900 (instead of $500 like we thought). Long story, but the whole entire fuel system (pump, line, everything) was bad. (We just spent $513 to get my fuel pump replaced 2 wks ago!!)
Grrr. So I get into the car, having no clue how the hell we are going to pay for this and see I have a missed call from my mom.
I call her back, and she says ‘I have sad news’. Grandma and Grandpa are okay, but something happened. (Background: my grandparents spend every winter in Florida in motorhomes with another couple and sometimes more people, have been doing this for about 5-6 yrs. They were due to be home tomorrow night).
Will and Deana (their *best* friends from Kentucky and the sweetest old southern couple I have EVER met) were behind Gma and Gpa. They were a little far back, but then gparents realized they hadn’t seen them in a couple of miles. They got off at the next exit to turn around. They called both their phones with no answer. Traffic then started to ween off on the other side then completely stopped. When they got to the scene, all that was left was the metal frame of the motorhome. Will and Deana’s motorhome had blown a tire, lost control, flipped, and ran into a tree which ignited their propane tank.Deana’s sister was also traveling home with them (had flown down to visit).
My heart is breaking for my grandparents and for the families of Will and Deana. I am extremely close to my grandparents, which makes it so hard to watch them hurt. I am still in utter shock that this even happened. You always think freak accidents happen to other people. I’d met the couple several times when I visited in the winter, so I know two great people will be missed by all who knew them.
My grandma turned 70 on Thursday, and we have a weekend full of events planned to welcome them home. I can’t wait to see them, and I know it will make them happy to be around all of us again (7 grandkids and I’m the eldest – very close family!).
I don’t know what to do for them — I don’t think there’s really anything I can do but just be there.
Just a note to tell you Bees to be careful and to not take life for granted because you just never know!!! Make a happy life for yourself and enjoy it. Let go of the small things and remember the BIG things! Love your bf, fi, husband like there’s no tomorrow. Make him the happiest man alive and he will do the same for you.
I love you all, this is such a great community, and thank you, incredible ladies (and men), for being a part of it! I hope you have a wonderful Friday and enjoy your weekend 🙂
