I am so excited I might burst!! I’m one of THOSE brides to be that hasn’t actually had a proposal yet, but it’s getting close. I’ve been a lurker on here a while, this is my first post! Have had open and frank discussions with the OH over the last X years about what we each both want and expect, and one morning we actually did plan our wedding in terms of venue, season, entertainment, food, timescale, overall budget etc. This last week the OH confessed that he’s nearly asked a few times, but it’s when we’ve been in the kitchen/bedroom, and he thinks I’d like more of a special proposal, and that he feels a bit of pressure to make it special. I told him that he doesn’t need to hire a plane to write the proposal in the sky, but that maybe something a bit more special than just being in bed together on a Sunday morning might be nice. I’ve shown him pictures of wedding dresses, he has helpfully said which ones he doesn’t like, and I’ve also confessed to him that I have started saving and have an Excel spreadsheet on the go… Also, my dream dress is on Ebay right now for 1/8th of the price… If he could just propose before the listing ends, that would be great, though he did say that if I want to buy a dress and stash it away, I can do that!!
Anyone else getting that tingling feeling that a proposal is near?? I get the feeling that couples these days are like us and have really open discussions about these things, and that your average woman now isn’t just waiting for the man to guess that she wants a proposal?! A step forward for feminism, and a practical approach to ensuring a lasting marriage? Or do you mourn the lack of tradition and see brides planning a wedding without a proposal as your classic ‘desperate’ crazy lady?
