Very nice and good job, on everything :-)
I don't have pictures, but so far, I have made 3 pumkin pies, 1 apple pie, and the stuffing; along with cleaning the house inbetween. I am thinking about making a lemon meringue pie later tonight.
Made a pumpkin pie and did a little mock up of how I'm going to do the table!! It's just going to be us this year....couldn't afford to travel back to our hometown (7+ hour drive)

Everything looks wonderful. Nothing cooking here in Canada ... our Thanksgiving was last month! Enjoy yours! It all looks delicious!
@peaches1038: Yum! I love pumpkin pie too! A romantic dinner for two sounds great! We've got my inlaws, the 3 of us (T, my son, and I)and a few couples are coming over later in the evening for dessert and coffee (or wine!).
I'm taking a mini-break until I start on the sweet potatos. Doing it the ol' fashioned way peeling your own potatoes, boiling and then mashing them and then making the filling is time-intensive but so worth it. I got the best recipe from a former coworker about 17 years ago.
A few minutes ago the pecan tartlets and the pie came out of the oven (one on top stove, other on bottom. My H and son both got into them and I caught them in time before they ate too many. Heck we gotta serve our guests tomorrow!
No pictures, because we're not actually having our Thanksgiving dinner until Friday. It's a long story...
Anyway, I'll be making a blueberry pie and Thanksgiving themed petite fours. I may end up making sweet potato casserole as well, but we'll see.
Mostly prep today, so hopefully more/better pictures tomorrow, but here's a start (we're hosting 20):

That looks great! Can I pop over?
It's kinda exciting when you get really into the nesting phase! This is what I mean when I say that all the wedding prep stuff actually IS important as you can morph the skills into your new life. Having fun and being creative for your wedding isn't something you lose..you just incorporate that into your new life.
T has taken over the kitchen temporarily while I rest from pie making. he's makin' turkey meatloaf (from ground turkey) and veggies tonight. I'm lounging and watching real housewives of atl right now.
Hey SouthernGirl, take some pics of those amazing desserts! I love blueberry pie!
Let's have some dessert love round' here.
The great chef in the kitchen (my H) just said "I'm damn good". Maybe I should let him cook more often. Oh well. At least he has good self confidence in the kitchen. lmao! We'll see if it tastes good then he can be "really damn good"
!
So many pies! Dessert is definitely my favorite part of Thanksgiving. I'm spending my first Thanksgiving with the future in-laws this year, and I'm bringing an apple pie and a pumpkin pie. Just started pre-heating the oven!
I'm a Canadian in Australia who's frantically researching the internet for the perfect pumpkin pie recipe! FI and i have been invited to an expat american's thanksgiving dinner on Saturday night, and we've been allocated pumpkin pie to bring! they don't sell canned pumpkin here, so i'm starting from scratch.
Do any of you Thanksgiving veterans have your amazing pumpkin pie recipes to share! the ones i'm finding on the internet look fine and all, but i trust the hive!
I have an amazing sweet potato pie recipe tho.
C'mon bees! Show us your kitchens! Your food!
Oh...btw, my DH finished the turkey meatloaf and it's good. So I can say he's "damn good"..lol! When a man cooks it's hot. When they can cook pretty good they're really really hot!
@ScarletBegonia: I make my pumpkin pie from scratch too. Here is the recipe that I have used for the past two years. Don't worry if the filling looks really runny, it'll firm right up in the oven. I have a crust recipe from my grandma is you need that too!
Ingredients
* To make pumpkin purée from a sugar pumpkin: start with a small-medium sugar pumpkin, cut out the stem and scrape out the insides, discard (save the seeds, of course). Cut into sections and steam in a saucepan with a couple inches of water at the bottom, until soft. Scoop out the pulp from the skin. Or you can bake whole or halved in a 350°F oven until fork tender. Optional - put pulp through a food mill or chinois to make extra smooth.
Directions
1 Preheat oven to 425°F.
2 Mix sugars, salt, and spices, and lemon zest in a large bowl. Beat the eggs and add to the bowl. Stir in the pumpkin purée. Stir in cream. Whisk all together until well incorporated.
3 Pour into pie shell and bake at 425°F for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes reduce the temperature to 350°F. Bake 40-50 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
4 Cool on a wire rack for 2 hours.
Serve with whipped cream. Serves 8.
A while ago I finished my pumpkin spice cake to make these. The cake is now cooling in the fridge so I can finish. http://crepesofwrath.net/2010/10/15/white-chocolate-pumpkin-spice-truffles/
I'm now onto my pumpkin cupcakes and after dinner I'll start my pumpkin cheesecake. I'm hoping it'll be done in time to make a regular cheesecake.
My house smells very pumpkin-y right now. Yummy! :)
@peaches1038: OMG - thanks! very helpful! I'd love the pastry recipe as well if you don't mind posting - grandma's recipes are ALWAYS the best!!!!
I'm excited to get in the kitchen and get started!!
I am trying (and I think failing
) at making gingersnap cherry cheesecake. I dont think that its all the way cooked, and my oven has been on so long it started smoking. AWESOME! haha
I'm making apple and pecan pie and my fiance is making candied yams.
WOW! It looks so good. Nothing cooking in my house tonight. I am more of the guest tomorrow and kind of sad that I wont be cooking our Thanksgiving meal. I am making a few things for tomorrow and if I think of it I might have to snap a few pics and post them then.
I just made fishsticks ... from the Vandekamps box. They were delightful. :D
I'm just making a dill dip for the festivities tomorrow. Then maybe something for work. Yes, I have to work tomorrow.
I am from Canada - so I did the full thanksgiving dinner for me and DH a month ago (we didn't see family because I was stuck working thanksgiving weekend). In honour of American thanksgving, I am brining a chicken, and tomorrow will have it with mashed potatoes, dressing, and glazed carrots (YUM!)
Here are my pies(apple and pumpkin). I'm working on some pupkin mousse and then I'm off to bed. We're driving to NY tomorrow.
Gram's Crust
@kate6214: The lattice on your pie is so pretty! I am a mess at top crusts and very impressed.
I'm trying my hand at a double layer pumpkin cheesecake! I've never made a cheesecake before, so we'll see how it goes-it looks and smells pretty yummy!
@BunnyBrideToBe:Thanks! The trick I've found is to make sure you don't roll out the dough too thin, cut the pieces to be longer then your pie pan (you can break it off when you finish) and working from the middle out. Really it's just easier then rolling out the crust because I always end up with a tear when I try to transfer it to the pie.
Mmm... I had leftover Chinese food warmed up in the microwave today, and no turkey on the horizon until Christmas, but just wanted to pop in to tell you guys to have a great Thanksgiving!
@June Bug: I made a double layer pumpkin cheesecake tonight too ;) I make it every year. It's a huge hit! I'm sure yours will taste delicious.
@In the media: haha, I always feel like a fail-wife when we have fishticks for dinner. I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes them!! Vandecamps all the way :D
I've got my turkey brining at the moment, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get everything else going because there's no room in our fridge! If we had a bit cooler I'd try it, but we have no room to store one so we've never bought one. I definitely won't be taking pictures of my kitchen or our table (it will just be DH and my mother in law, so nothing fancy) but maybe if something I make turns out nice, I'll take a pic.
Wish me luck as this will be my first full turkey!! I usually do just the turkey breast in the slow cooker (easy!) but the breast was double the price of the whole turkey so I now I've got a nearly 15lb turkey for 3 people lol.
My house smells of homemade pumpkin pie! I just took one out of the oven and it smells wonderful! My intentions were to bake two tonight but only one survived. As I was preparing the filling for the second pie, I went to add the evaporated milk to the batch and CLUMPS of rotten milk poured into my mixture. I was devastated! I phoned the store that I purchased the milk from not even an hour prior and they said they'd replace all of my ingredients. Luckily my brother works there so he swung by on his way home and dropped off what I needed. Tomorrow I'll work on the second pie...I don't have it in me tonight to stay up late.
Tonight, I'm thankful for my brother!
Just wanted to show you the fruits of my labour and your recipes! I used everything!!
THanks sooo much - i hope they taste as good as they look and smell
@ScarletBegonia: Yay!! They look beautiful!!! You'll have to let me know if how they turned out!
NotFroofy made pumpkin and pecan pies to take with us to a friend's Thanksgiving dinner. By the time we left, most of both of them had been eaten.
Ok, my family celebrates Thankgiving tomorrow, so I think I'll be making two pumpkin pies (one with caramel, one without), a chocolate pie and a banana cream pie, so if I remember to take pictures today, I'll post 'em. :)
@peaches1038: they were DELICIOUS!!! I got many, many, MANY compliments!! I was worried about the pastry, because shortening is hard to come by here in Oz. I did some internet research and figured out how to adjust the recipe to use butter, and it turned out great! I can't believe how good the filling is - i think making it with real pumpkin really adds something!
THanks again for your recipes!

Beekeeper
Our homey hive smells great right now! I'm making pecan tartlets and having to stop typing here to go check the oven every so often. Later tonight making the sweet potato pies! Earlier I made my cream cheese dip and it's in its' mold in the fridge..looks so cute when it will come out tomorrow onto the serving plate!
^Here's the pecan pie filling and le workstation! Note wine in background for tomorrow just in case...
^the tartlets! Some w/pie filling, some without.
^the tarlets go in the oven! I'll post the "after" pics when the gals come outta the oven! My lil' tartlets rock!
Last night I got busy setting the dining room table and made two flower arrangements (see? As a former bride who acquired tons of wedding style here I can proudly say I have skillz!!) The 'bee and the amazing inspiration and diy ideas, seriously helped me sharpen the skillz...
^sterling not out yet..gotta get them ready tonight. Candles also aren't lit. But it's somewhat close to being ready.
^the second, smaller arrangement.
I always say that having nice containers are great items to splurge on. I used earlier this month, a large cylinder from our wedding to make an arrangement in the formal room on the mantle and for thest two arrangements, I used two silver footed bowls I had already. They were pretty on their own, but adding the flowers takes a bowl usually reserved for mints or nuts and turns them into silvery showstoppers! So if any brides are wondering, go ahead and buy nice containers! I promise you will re-use them over and over!
Tomorrow I'm getting up and making my sweet potatoe bisque soup (yum!) and green bean bundles (with turkey bacon and also yum) and the other appetizer, my spinach/pepperjack dip!
I'll post pie and tartlet pics later tonight..
So, what are ya'll cookin? Show the hive your mad bee skillz!!! Bakin skillz, floral skillz, turkey bastin' skillz, ham skillz (you GOT to have ham skillz)!
