So, basically Darling Husband and I don’t plan on being a “try, try, try!” couple (I have anxiety issues, and I think having to focus on all that stuff would just make the chances of conniving decrease for us anyway), at least not right away. We would, however, like to start our version of ttc around this June. Ideally, I would become pregnant sometime before next Christmas. I know there is no magic formula in this, and we certainly don’t chose when we conceive, but I am wondering when you bees think I should get my IUD (Merina) removed. Do you think I should make the appointment now, or wait until closer to June? I personally don’t know anyone who had an IUD before ttc, and I’m wondering how long it took for their menstrual cycle to return (I don’t even get my period anymore). I know this is all very individualized, but I would truley appreciate any insight you may have. Thanks so much, and enjoy your weekend!
ETA: PS, I’ve had the Mirena in place for two years now, and before that I had been on bc pills for 5ish years

it takes about 1 month for the lining of your uterus to grpow back to normal (Mirena thins the lining which is the reason you don’t bleed.) to be on the safe side, you could have it removed one month in advance and starts your folic acid too.

I don’t know much about the mirena, but I don’t see the harm in removing it now. You can always be safe until you’re ready. We plan on TTC starting May/June, and I came off the pill last month so my body can regulate. My OBGYN also told me she likes for her patients to be off birth control for 2-3 cycles before TTC to give your body time to adjust and for your lining to thicken. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I just got my Mirena out in February. I had to have it surgically removed via hysteroscopy due to the strings having retracted in my uterus, and I had a laparoscopy to remove endometrial adhesions AND a D&C at the same time. I got my first period 30 days after my surgery…and it was a period FROM HELL. I had the Mirena for almost the full 5 years and I also did not have periods at all while I had the IUD. My doc also said it can take a few months to regain fertility, but I’m not too worried since I had the D&C and the super-period, LOL. I’m having labs drawn on CD23 to make sure I’m ovulating and all that good stuff. If I were you, I’d go ahead and have it taken out now. You can always use condoms for a couple of months if you want to ensure you don’t get pregnant before June.
