Mr Rugbee & I will be foxtrotting our first dance. Since our first official lesson is tonight, I figured I should pick a song... Easier said than done:

Initially I wanted to do "Hey There Delilah" but it's much too fast. So I took to the internet, only to discover that I hate the majority of traditional "first dance" songs. If I hear another website suggest Whitney Houston or Frank Sinarta, I'm going to rip out all my hair!

At the moment I'm leaning either towards something like either:

    something sexy like Fever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIapiQYVsXU&feature=related

Or something sweeter like Only You by Joshua Radin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etNiF21uUZE

Still have to run these by Mr Rugbee: He'll probably hate them both... but he hasn't had to listen to all the crap our there.

So my questions to you all are: Any suggestions? How did you pick your song (& what is it)? Was it easy to choose? Did it go well with your dance?

IMO, Fever might be a touch too sexy for a first dance and Only You has a weird thumping beat in it that was super distracting.  Yes, finding a first dance song is hard, but maybe stop for a few days and go back and start fresh.  Is there a song that really means something to your relationship?

If you are set on a FoxTrot, try calling one of your local dance studios for some suggestions.  Some studios have lists on thier websites.

Hey there my favorite rugger bee :)  We did end up picking a Sinatra song... sorry :)  We were in Las Vegas on vacation 2 years ago and "Fly Me to the Moon" was playing at the Bellagio dancing fountains.  It isn't as common as some of the other Sinatra songs, but his family is from NY so it just kind of fit!

The problem here is that I have little to no dancing ability.  I look like a fish out of water in Zumba class and I can only imagine I look worse trying to do official dance steps!  Dance lessons will definitely be in our future, so tell me how it goes!  GL :)

    I feel ya, sister!

Here are the ones I'm thinking about:
In My Life - The Beatles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suuU3mliNo8&feature=related
Save Room - John Legend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGRyPOrXArE&feature=related
These Arms of Mine - Otis Redding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33z__6Qe95o
That's How Strong My Love Is - Otis Redding: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd9AEGQkobc&feature=related
First Day of My Life - Bright Eyes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwFS69nA-1w

But they're all missing a little SOMETHING. I don't know what that something is yet...

@rubyroad10: I hear what you mean. By far my favourate is First Day of my Life but it's almost too innocent. The rest of them are a bit fuzzy because they're such old songs: I think what they're lacking is a bit of crispness ( & bass!!) to really make the dance sound solid!

@DaneLady: I'm too much of a perfectionist to let the two of us brutes just sway along with no explicit instructions. We might resort to instinct & try to tackle eachother. I'm happy for you both that the song's already picked out. I'm really starting to feel the pressure (25 days to go!!!)

We picked the disney song Now I See The Light from the movie Tangled.  The words just resonated with me, and make me think of him whenever I hear them :)  A little cutsey but meh.
