Prior to starting IVF, I wanted to know how much meds costs (without insurance). I kept getting a range of $3000-$6000 per round. So I thought I would share, so if you are thinking you may have to do IVF, you can plan and save.
Couple of things—this is MY protocol. Your protocol may be very, very different with slightly different drugs in different dosages. This is USA dollars. I bought from Freedom Fertility Pharmacy. This is JUST FOR DRUGS; this does not include the procedure. We were able to prepay for 2 rounds for $17,000.
I’m 42. TTC for 2.5 years. 3 medicated IUI’s, one natural BFP that resulted in MC at 7w5d. I’m doing lots and lots of alternative things like TCM diet, acupuncture, supplements, Mayan massage, etc.
I’m doing an Antagonist Protocol and I have a latex allergy (which means I cant use certain drugs). I’m using Bravelle (150IU AM, 150IU PM) and Menopur (75IU PM) to grow (or stimulate) egg growth. Centrotide to prevent premature egg release. Novarel to trigger egg release. Azithromycin (antibiotic) to prevent infection during/after retrieval. Using Endrometrium and Estradiol to grow and keep the lining happy. (not included in the price is the BCP that I look to shut my ovaries down)
So you want to know how much IVF meds costs…

Good luck to you! We’ve been looking into IVF as well. The costs are daunting that’s for sure. I’m hoping after we move to Mass and I get a job there, insurance will cover some of the costs since Mass has a mandate that insurance companies cover IVF in some capacity and they can’t exclude meds just because they’re fertility related. It does make the process that much more complicated though. Sounds like your cost for two rounds is fairly reasonable (gosh how insane does that sound!) .
hope you get your sticky baby. Good luck!

I forgot to add that the 2 rounds of IVF include ICSI and embryo storage fees for up to 1 year.

Thanks for the info! The costs are so stressful to think about but that seems to be what road I will be headed on so I have to get use to that reality! I don’t think there are too many girls on WB going through IVF at the moment so just wanted to share another place with a lot of activity for girls going through IVF. Pink pad is the app I use on my iphone to track cycles and they have their own community to use and there is a section just for IVF girls and you will always have lots of people starting IVF or in the tww to talk with if you want a buddy!

@KoiKove: My insurance covers 6 rounds. Are those prices without any insurance coverage or deductibles?

@fuentesbee: This was for just medication (with no insurance coverage). The actual procedure cost about $11,000 (per round). But we were able to buy ahead and get 2 rounds for $17,500. But that means you have to buy 2 rounds of medication.

Just to follow up. My first round was a nightmare and I stimmed for 22 days (most people it’s 9-14 days) and we ended up converting to IUI. That means I had to buy a lot more drugs! More than $2,000 worth of drugs. That means I spent $6500 for an IUI–so frustrating! But my next round the doc tweaked my meds (and didnt suppress me at all). So I only stimmed for 9 days. With my leftover drugs from round 1, I only had to spend an additional $2,000 for drugs for the second round.
