Yes! There's actually a JCrew wedding dress that is ivory and gray, and it's pretty pretty. (Just for an ivory and gray looking good together reference.
)
I think it will look fine. Plus remember that you'll be holding bouquets that will bring all your colors together.
Yes this will be BEAUTIFUL!!!! (Have you seen the ivory/dove Vera Wang dresses from Fall 09? GORGEOUS!)
Thank you!! This is all very reassuring, and I can't wait to check out the J Crew and Vera Wang dresses for more color reassurance, hehe. And charm bracelet -- you're absolutely right, I forget that I'll have other things (bouquets, paper lanterns, etc,) that will tie everything together.
I definitely wouldn't worry about it!! I think that it will look gorgeous with the two colors together, especially with your bouquets, etc! Even alone together, I love ivory and gray!
I think it will look good together. I haven't been able to find an inspiration board with this color combo yet, but you could make one to get a better feel for the colors together. Are you doing a bolder accent color with these two neutrals?
Gray is like the new wedding color! I've been seeing it in so my inspirational boards! I think it'll look great!
Grey is the current IT color. And many brides wear ivory. It will look A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
Here's an example from Snippet & Ink I found that has grey, and warm whites and yellows: http://snippetandink.blogspot.com/2009/03/board-362-milk-honey.html
I think this will definitely work well together. Like Kate said, I look at grey as a neutral, so it will go with anything.
My dress was ivory and my girls wore different shades of dark and light grey. It looked great and I have photographic evidence!
And... (gasp!) the guys' shirts were white, not ivory!
Thanks everyone! I have been drooling over that Snippet and Ink inspiration board for awhile now -- it really helped me pin down gray as one of my colors, and as the color for my BM dresses.
JeniRae -- I LOVE your pictures! Your BM dresses are exactly the two shades of gray I'm currently deciding between, and I am using pale pink and bright pink and green as accent colors too (bouquets, lantern colors, ribbons to hang the lanterns, etc.)! Thanks so much for sharing.
I think I'm just starting to freak out because I'm thisclose to buying my wedding dress, and I am the type of person who second-guesses and obssesses over a lot of things...especially big purchases for our wedding!! Thanks for all your input and assurance!
Thanks, buttons! Here's one more picture of the BMs, if it helps you decide! (Maybe you could do both shades of grey?)
that would look great...i think mellisa sweet has some really nice dresses in this color scheme. very classy!
I am SO glad that I found this post. I bought my dress several months ago--it's ivory. My reception site is very modern and has lots of gold and blue so I needed a color for the bridesmaids that wouldn't blend in or contrast too much. I decided on a platinum/smoke color.
All of this was fine until we went to look at tuxes last weekend. The guy who was working decided to tell us everything he thought about our color choice. The ivory tuxedo shirts and platinum vests did look a little odd together. I'm thinking we may just ditch the vests. @JeniRae- is that why you decided to stick with white shirts for the men?
I think it looks fine but I would love to hear if anyone else had problems in choosing to do ivory and gray-
Thanks!
Those are the colors of my wedding dress, so I might be biased when I say it's beautiful together. All neutrals mix as the other girls say and I say go for it :)
I just bought my dress today and its ivory
Our guys are wearing light grey tuxes (the Calvin Klein). I held up a grey bridesmaids dress to my dress and while it did look a bit more gold compared to the silvery-ness of the grey, it was fine. It wasn't like it clashed or was unattractive, just different tones, and I'm fine with it. For me, its more important to have my dream dress than to be matchy!
So we are doing white shirts for the guys with their grey tuxes and white tablecloths even though I'm in ivory. I'm not going to stress over it. It won't look dirty - it will look like IVORY! Which is a beautiful, flattering color, and gives dresses a very romantic, vintage look, in my opinion.
I found this inspiration board for you off Perfect Palette. There's some golds and browns in it, but a general idea of ivory/gray.

Our colours are yellow, grey and ivory...so I'd say heck yeah it'll look awesome :)
I LOVE adding gray in a color palette. And I agree with Charm bracelet; bouquets or cute wraps will tie everything together.
I love ivory and grey, it has a softness to it that pure white doesn't have.

I have a question that may be a bit silly, but I would really appreciate your input! I have narrowed down my dress to two contenders, and they are both ivory/cream -- not white. My bridesmaids will be wearing either light or dark gray (haven't decided yet). Do you think this will look ok -- having ivory with gray? Am I being wayyyy too nit-picky and worrying over nothing? Thanks hive!
