I know this has been covered… but those of you already married in an ivory dress, can you post photos of the dress with the groom and note if the groom’s shirt was white or ivory? My guy wants to wear a white shirt and a white tie, my dress is ivory, while I want him to wear what he wants, I would like to be sure the photos won’t look off.

If you are wearing Ivory, he should wear ivory too. the only time when the ivory/white debate doesnt matter IMO is when brides start worrying about ivory dress matching white linens… because why would you need to match your linens anyway. But I think your FI should wear ivory.

I honestly dont think this will make that much of a difference. I think the shirt will look fine with your ivory dress but the white tie might be a little much. Could he wear a different colored tie?

Honestly, I really really reall don’t think that ANYONE will notice if your dress is ivory and his shirt is white. Chances are, he’ll have a jacket on for most pictures, right? I really wouldn’t worry about it. I personally don’t like ivory shirts for guys–I think they end up looking dingy.

Ivory shirts for guys are rarely the same ivory as wedding dresses. They usually have more yellow undertones. I don’t think its a big enough deal to worry about and I agree with Hilsy85 that his shirt will look dingy.

White shirt, ivory dress. IMHO, she should wear what flatters her, and he should wear what flatters him.
*apologies to the good folks at Continuum Photography for chopping off the heads of this otherwise beautifully framed shot 🙂

I think the ivory shirt makes it look dingy. Here’s a picture of my groom in his ivory jacket with a white shirt. I wore ivory as well. The ivory shirt that was available at Men’s Warehouse is more of cream, so against the ivory it looked yellow and clashed with the ivory jacket and my dress. The white was more complimentary.

@PitBulLover: He hasn’t had an opinion on many things and the one things he has is his tie. He must have seen a photo somewhere of a black suit, with a white shirt and white tie and liked it. I am looking for a white patterned tie… I found a great one at the Tiebar.com. But was curious to see other bride’s photos of a white shirt with an ivory dress before I committed.

My dress- ivory on top, light gold on bottom
His suit- ivory shirt, light gold vest (and black suit, red tie)
We tried both the ivory and the white shirt on him and thought the ivory looked better, both with my dress and with the rest of the ensemble we wanted him to wear. (Most specifically the vest.)
This is the best pic I have with me here at work computer. I’ll see if I can steal a moment later this morning to troll through some of what I have on facebook to see if there’s a better shirt/vest shot of him.
