We just went this weekend to pick out the tuxes for our wedding and I didn’t even think about the fact that my dress is ivory colored and the shirts would be white! My FI picked a black suit with a black vest and black tie but the shirt will be white. We can still do an ivory shirt but I think the ivory shirt looked gross. But I also don’t want my ivory dress to look dirty next to a stark white shirt!!
Anyone have any experience with this? Pictures would be appreciated…let me know what you think!!

We chose our tuxes this weekend and went with ivory. I didn’t like the ivory shirt on its own, but it looked great once we put the entire ensemble together. Plus I really didn’t want my dress to look dingy next to the guys.

I don’t think it will be a problem, unless you’re into eveything matching exactly. My dress will be ivory and while FI hasn’t decided if the dress shirts/vests/ties will be blue (with the contrasting color being white or vice-versa), we don’t have a problem with it visually. But, we’re not into matching colors for the schemes.

I had an ivory dress and white shirts and it was FINE – wouldn’t worry about it. 🙂

Thanks everyone! It was just something I hadn’t thought about at ALL so it caught me off guard lol
The ivory shirts seemed too yellow for my dress my they told me I could take one of their ivory shirts to my fitting with me to match it

@UmakeURownLUCK: I think I felt the same way. While my dress was ivory, it wasn’t quite the beige that the ivory shirts seemed to have.

Ivory dress, white tux shirts here as well. Totally fine.

No worries! We’re doing ivory dinner jackets and the men are to wear white shirts with those. It’s totally fine!!!

I personally have seen the Ivory Dress/White shirt done and just do not care for it. It looks off to me and you can totally tell in pictures. The way I look at it is we spend so much time picking colors, flowers etc… to match so why not have the guys shirts match our dress? Just my thoughts….

I had a breakdown over this in the middle of the Men’s Warehouse. Lol…… in the end, we went with the ivory shirts. Especially since FI is wearing an ivory vest and tie – it looked funny against the white, and overall, the ivory seemed a more flattering color. FYI, it helps if you separate the ivory shirt from the white shirts – you really can’t tell it’s ivory unless it’s right next to the white ones. While I was there, I heard another couple dealing with a different person and they said how they had chosen white as well but her dress looked dirty next to it so they were switching to the ivory. I personally have NEVER EVER EVER paid attention to this before – and I seriously doubt any of your guests will either.

I had an ivory dress and the groomsmen wore ivory shirts. I definitely think white would have been too white.

@UmakeURownLUCK: FI and I had this debate for over an hour last week. He refused to wear the ivory shirt but was afraid I would be upset since my dress is ivory. I said I didnt care, but he is afraid that the whiteness will make my dress look “dingy”. After googling this exact thing, I can say that I have yet to see a picture that looks “dingy”. I think it will be fine!

DH and his guys all wore white shirts. Yeah, you can tell a little in pics, but it doesn’t look bad. We considered ivory shirts, but they were almost double the price of the white.

My dress is diamond white and so is his tux shirt… The place we got tuxes had white, ivory, and diamond white. I did want it to match.
