Most ivory dresses have little to no color variation when placed next to a white shirt. Only you will notice, and on the day of the wedding, it won't even matter to you at that point. Do you have a fabric swatch from your dress? Take that with you to the tux shop.
If the ivory shirt is too yellow, go with white. Most people cannot wear shades of yellow.
My dress is ivory and the guys are also wearing ivory shirts. I believe the fear is that if the guy wears white, your dress could look "dingy" when he stands next to you.
I personally would (amd am myself) use white shirts for the guys. I just think it's a cleaner look. But I wouldn't worry about the dress not matching the shirts, whatever color you end up with--no one will be able to tell.
I have the same issue. I did not like those ivory microfiber shirts at MW. I thought they felt icky and would be very hot. The groomsmen and dads are wearing white cotton shirt with gray vest/tie. My fiance is wearing the white shirt with ivory vest/tie. I was a little iffy on the white/ivory combo but I saw it somewhere on line and I was OK with it.
We're going with white shirts for the guys. I just think it looks crisper and I don't mind about wearing ivory while they're wearing white - I don't think anyone will notice.
I wore an ivory dress, all the guys had white shirts, but we opted for no vests.
working at a Men's Formal Wear shop, we ALWAYS put the guys in ivory shirts if the bride was in ivory. wouldn't you rather them compliment the dress instead of the slight chance of making the dress look dirty or dingy? plus, the micro fiber shirts do feel much better than the poly/cotton blend shirts, and the guys seem to like them more.
I also have an ivory dress and am putting all the men in ivory shirts. go to menswarehouse and build a tux yourself! Its the easiest way to see it and then decide! Happy planning!
I wore an ivory dress and my hubby wore an ivory shirt (with matching vest and tie). It looks nice together... and you will barely even notice in pictures.
I have an ivory dress and FI picked out white french cuffed shirts for the guys. I don't think they'll look bad nor will my dress look dingy. I like the cleaner look of white shirts on the guys.
I have an ivory dress and the guys are wearing ivory shirts. I'm not sure it really matters much. Just personal preference.
I have an ivory dress and put the FI in Ivory as well...my girls have white in their dresses, so the groomsmen are in white shirts....My FI will have a vest and jacket and the groomsmen will just be in vests.
I was told that those who will be near me should be in ivory, so my dad and FI will be in ivory so that way I won't look yellow.
I am wearing an ivory dress and FI is wearing a white shirt with ivory vest and tie. One of the other ladies here - KellyV did this and it looked simply beautiful in her pictures! She sent me pictures from her wedding to show my FI. I don't feel comfortable forwarding them on, but I would highly suggest PMing her. She answered my post when I posted this exact same thing about 4 months ago.
If I choose an ivory dress, the men will be wearing ivory shirts. I worry that if the shirts on the groom/groomsmen were white, my dress would look "dirty" in comparison. I am also of the opinion that white and ivory/beige are not friends and shouldn't be worn together, although I know many people who think the absolute opposite! It is really up to you as to whether the colors will be that different or not and what you are comfortable with!
I saw the ivory MW wanted to put my FI in, and it was a lot more yellow than my dress! We are putting the guys in WHITE shirts/black vests. FI will have the lightest Ivory vest they have...
@tschelitzche: I have been going through the same dilemna and decided to go with all ivory shirts for the guys, black tie for the groom and a striped charcoal tie for the guys. I thought the Men's Warehouse ivory was very yellow too, but I went to two different stores that said it looked yellow because of the light (I told them they need to get new lights). So, I took it outside and it did look soooo much better. My dress seems to match it perfectly and when it is all said and done, I don't think people will even notice especially if it matches pretty well with your dress. This might have been the hardest decision that I have made so far, pretty stressful. I guess I will see how it turns out.
I thought about this too. I am wearing an ivory dress and the groomsmen and FI are wearing ivory shirts.
I've got an ivory dress and considering ivory shirt/vest for FI. I think it would look good.
I think it also depends on how ivory your ivory dress is. Mine is light ivory, and much closer to a Jim's Formal Wear white than ivory. In fact, my dress is so light, I think we'll go with a diamond white vest/tie.
I was going to have them in ivory, until I saw the Men's Wearhouse ivory shirts. They look gross to me, almost yellow. I changed my mind to white, and FI didn't care.
I TOTALLY AGREE! The Men's warehouse ivory shirts might as well be yellow. They look awful. My dress is the Adorae by Sottero and Midgley and although its ivory, its a very shiny satin and to me doesnt really look ivory at all. I think that the ivory shirts from men's warehouse would look yellow in the pictures next to my dress- they are NOT ivory!
I say go with the white. its classier and crisper.
I wore an ivory dress and DH had an ivory shirt custom made. We just had the groomsmen wear white shirts that they owned....our biggest concern was that DH was going to be next to me in the pictures and I didn't want my dress looking dingy. Our photographer agreed that it was the right call since we had an outdoor ceremony and pictures. Trust me...having our wedding pictures back, you can tell the difference between ivory and white.
i have an ivory dress, and the guys are in white... FI bought a suit and shirt (he REALLY wanted an excuse to get a new suit) and we didn't think about it when we were buying his shirt... then when we rented groomsmen suits they asked shirt color and we figured we didn't care that much.
my dress is barelllly ivory though-it's just not pure white.

Hi all,
I know this topic has probably already been discussed, but I am a new member and having troubles navigating the site, so I thought I would post a topic.
Anyway, I am getting married in August and my wedding dress is ivory. The lady at Men's Wearhouse had me sign up for ivory shirts for all the guys in the wedding party and my fiance. The groomsmen are wearing a green tie and vest. My groom is wearing an ivory vest and green tie. And the dads are wearing an ivory tie and vest.
After thinking about it for awhile, I'm not sure that the ivory shirt will look good. It is a more yellow ivory than my dress and it doesn't really match the ivory of the vests worn by my groom and the dads.
What does everyone think of changing the shirts to white instead of ivory? Does anyone have pics of themselves in an ivory dress with a groom wearing a white shirt and ivory vest?
Thanks for all the help!
