I figured we needed one centralized thread for everyone to talk about it and get updates from affected hive members. Mods can you sticky this?
so sad. I have been reading the news stories on msn. its so devastating to the affected areas. I have been praying for everyone affected by this all morning. I was wondering if someone was going to post about this.
There are actually a couple other posts going on as well....
It is so devastating. My heart and prayers go out to all those affected and all the souls lost.
@Mrs.tobe: yeah I had seen the other posts and read them. I just figured it would be good to have one general big thread instead of 12 separate ones going on so everyone is on the same page. . . literally :) I made the title of this post general. Do you know how to get a mod on here to sticky the thread?
@ktisthatbees: I just posted this in support... Not sure if that will work.

@Mrs.tobe: oh cool thanks! As long as I've been on here, I still don't know how to do some things
Any updates on how everyone in HI is doing? Thinking about you!
Omg this is awful. Sending love and happy thoughts to our Bees in the affected areas. I'm speechless.
My dress is in the basement level of a salon on the embarcadero in sf... and the wedding is in a week :O i know its trivial, but i am so worried its going to flood and be ruined and ill be left without a dress :(
My thoughts are with all of those affected in Japan and everywhere else. It's such an awful tragedy and just heartbreaking.
@sweetpea1031: oh no!!! I'm sure everything will be ok and the dress is safe. It's not trivial, I would be worried too!
@ktisthatbees: THank you, I feel so selfish for being concerned about it :/ I hope it will be okay.
Thanks for stickying this thread! I wish I was home so I could watch the news - but Ive been checking CNN as often as I can
I think CorgiTales was either in Hawaii or going to Hawaii for her HM today. I hope we hear from her soon!
PS - If you ever need something stickied, just flag it and ask for it to be stickied in the comments box, one of the moderators will do it for you.
UPDATE: For those that can't access a TV right now, here is a link to live coverage on msnbc.com

@PitBulLover: CNN has live video feeds from Japan, HI, and CA. I'm watching the Hawaii News Now channel right now.
My husband mentioned this last night before I went to bed, but I didn't realize how bad it was until now.
I see that water will hit the coast...I have family there, anyone know how high its supposed to be?
Thoughts and prayers for everyone in Japan and for those with family/friends in Japan, Hawaii, and all the Pacific and Pacific coast regions. :(
@jedeve: I am not sure. I know a 50cm wave is suppose to hit Vancouver Island.
From the other thread:
My brother (in Sendai) said they're still having aftershocks often, 2-3 on the Richter scale. About an hour ago he was concerned because a fire was getting close to a local elementary school and there were still people on the roof. He's listening to the radio in a car for news and information (he is outside of the flooded area).
He said it stopped snowing and now it's just cold and very very dark there. It's 11pm so I don't think I'll get any more updates right now.
They are saying on live news that in a matter of minutes it will hit the California coastline, it was 6 ft surges in HI, no idea about the surge height for Cali
@camrie: I'm really glad to hear that your brother is o.k.! so sorry that his apartment was destroyed.
@ktisthatbees: CNN said an 8 ft wave a mile long, but online reports sound smaller. I wouldn't be surprised if CNN just is exaggerating, but still scary.
my news station is worthless so ladies its all on you to keep me updated. i messaged a friend on FB and they said turn on the tv its on every station...honey i have cable thats a lot of channels lol. local news says nothing anyone have a channel thats constant news so i can catch up?
@ktisthatbees: I'm waiting to hear about CA now. My parents are up in northern CA near Monterey.
@cr6zy: click the link i posted above to get live coverage, they are doing a good job of giving updates. I'm listening to it here at work
@ktisthatbees: Yeah, me too! I'm more concerned about him the aftermath being without utilities and food for an extended period of time or not being able to get out of the city.
i found cnn. did any of the big buildings fall? i know japan had some super tall skyskrapers.
My friends in Hawaii said it passed and they are ok. PHEW!
Praying for everyone on the west coast!
Praying for those in/around Sendai--such a beautiful place and nice people!
My parents are in SF, and my MOH. Hopefully they stay safe on high ground. My parents say they are ok.
@cr6zy: I know there's been damage to a nuclear power plant building, but no signs of leakage yet.
I have lots of friends in Japan. I went on a mission trip there some years back. I have heard from one family, but am waiting on something from all the others. My thoughts and prayers are with them all!
According to BBC,
The United States appears to be out of major danger from the tsunami, White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley has said. "The tsunami wave has gone through Hawaii and there does not seem to be any enormous impact, which is extremely encouraging," he told a meeting of the President's Export Council in Washington. There was still some risk to the US West Coast, "but I think the enormous fears that that were there hours ago, for some of us hours ago, has diminished greatly, which is quite a relief for all of us", Mr Daley added.
FI and I went to Japan in 2008. It stole my heart and that was one of our options for our honeymoon (we've changed our minds several times, so if you've heard Hawaii, NZ, Austraila, etc from me, that's why!) I hope we still can. I also work for the Red Cross, and we are on appeal now (at least in Canada) so if anyone is wanting to make a financial donation, please contact your local Red Cross office.
@KatNYC2011: thanks, unfortunately that site is blocked at work! But Im able to see the BBC site
Travel delays out of Canadian airports and some reaction from some of our Japanese exchange students.
Watching that live coverage this morning was just.....words fail me. It honestly almost didn't look real, but sadly is oh so real. It just breaks my heart.
For any of the bees looking for updates or who have information on folks, Google created a people finder for folks looking for loved ones.

It's just heartbreaking. My thoughts are going out to everyone.
