Hello Bees! I have been a lurker for a long time now and I am finally writting my first post.
I am ready to order a dress! My budget is $500.
I have heard so many great reviews on Jasmines so I went ahead and started asking them questions on choosing my dress. I am considering ordering the Rosa Clara Java dress from Jasmines and only upgrading fabric. Problem #1: No picture of the back of the dress. My Jasmine’s consultant told me to trust that they will follow the seams and do what they can with the pictures provided. I feel semi reassured since I like the look of the dress so darn much. This cost brings me right at $500. Problem#2: I am plain scared to drop money on a dress that I pray will look close enough and hopefully feel like it was worth the money. No matter how many reviews I read I still am having a hard time taking the plunge!
Now to my new love with Tadashi Shoji. The dress I am drooling over is called Paillete. I am really digging the shimmery sand lace look. The dress plus alterations will also be around $500. I woudn’t think twice about this dress until I realized how insecure I am on what my family and friends will say. I am terrified they won’t like the idea that it is not white/ivory. Or think its not traditionalish or too trendy. I know I am over thinking all of this but I never realized how conservative my wedding was going to bee until I started worrying about what other people thought. Crazy I know! Truth be told I love the idea of nonwhite dress that totally screams me all over it but I keep going back to the Jasmines dress knowing I will be safe/beautiful. Dress shopping has never been so hard! The two are complete opposite but I truly love them both. Which do I choose?
Dress1 is Jasmines. Dress2 is Tadashi.
I would love some advise bees!

Don’t go for “safe” just because you’re worried about what your family/friends might think. Your wedding day is one of the few days where it is centered around you and the things you love. Don’t settle!! If you keep going back to that sand gown, go for it! Even if your wedding is conservative/traditional like you were saying, it’s not like that gown is overly edgy- it is still incredibly elegant and is still modest despite the more modern shape. This is the day where honestly, the rest of the opinions other than yours and your new husband’s, don’t truly matter because it is the beginning of your new life- not their’s.

Both gowns are gorgeous! I have no experience with Jasmine’s, but I did buy a Tadashi Soji and LOVED it. The craftsmanship of the Soji gowns is stunning and they look far more expensive than $500. The bead/sequin detailing is lovely and appears to be hand-stitched. I, too, bought a gown in the “Sand” color, which is actually a lovely blush/taupe shade. They also fit like a dream…very flattering (though they run big…order your normal size or even go down one)! I ended up going with a different gown for my wedding, but I will probably keep the TS gown to wear to a formal occasion at some point! This was mine, just for reference…it is sold out and I completely understand why!

Thank you for the help bees! I went to Nordstrom yesterday and tried on the Tadashi dress in the color primrose. Turns out it wasn’t ment to be. BOOOOOO! Deep down I thought this dress was going to be the dress for me. The dress is everything I thought it was going to be but it was not ment for my body. Like AT ALL. I stand at a whopping 5’2 and this dress did me no justice. *Sigh* Good news is I tried on other dresses by Tadashi and they are very flattering, beautiful, elegant, and will be perfect for any formal occasion in my near future. Thank gosh! I think I will buy of one these dresses for my rehearsal dinner.
So Jasmines is going to be THE dress. I am a little crushed but still very happy. I keep looking at the Rosa Clara and I am not upset like I thought I was going to be after trying on the Tadashi. I will just have to bend the “traditional” rules a bit and rock it out with the my hair, jewelry, makeup, ceremony and reception(No cake, garter, or gift registry. We are having cupcake/pie tables, a buddhist ceremony, and charity registry, and brunch food-yum!)
I will post my Jasmine’s dress when they send me the pictures. Woohoo! I am super excited to put that bad boy on and feel like a bride!
Thanks again bees for the input!!! I know I should never settle for the families sake. I am a offbeat bride at heart and the groom and I will have a lot of ourselves to share with everyone we love. <3
