We just made this decision last month! haha. We are re-doing our Master Bath.
We decided on the garden tub. Why? Cost, Upkeep, Bang for Buck (bigger for less), and that's what we'll use it for primarily. The cost of the jet system alone was enough for us to be like, "Uh okay, garden tub it is!" Lol.
I had a jet tub and never used it. It's so loud that it makes it hard to relax or not disturb others who are trying to relax in other places.
@AmeliaBedelia: What is the size of your garden tub? Is it nice & round, or skinny and really deep? Thanks!
I always thought that I wanted a jet tub until the guy at the store told me that you can't use any additives to the water in a jet tub, like salts or bubbles, it ruins the jets. So that was my decision maker, totally not worth all the extra money for something that I can't use how I want to.
@tksjewelry: Can you add the bubbles when the jets are turned off? Or never? That will definitely help in my decision.
@cherrycoke: It's a long, wide, deep one. (I'm immature and giggled, sorry.) A round one, though nice, wouldn't have fit in our space. We haven't installed it yet, just bought it and now we're picking out tile. *Sigh* I hate renovations. Lol.
@AmeliaBedelia: LOL, I totally laughed too. Can I ask how much yours was? Where did you get it?
@cherrycoke: Ours was only around $300 from Lowe's. That isn't including any of the hardware or other odds and ends.
@cherrycoke: They told me never, that is why I took it off the table for us. I love my bubble baths and my bath salts.
Someone told me that they used their jets once (after using the tub without them for an extended period of time) and they shot out mold. And theyre a clean couple. They just seem like a lot of work to keep clean.
I think the jets would be nice for a massage...but that is what we have a jet shower head for! Otherwise, from what people have said here (no additives, noise) I would definitely pick the garden tub. We love to take relaxing baths together in total peace and quiet, so the jets would ruin that for us.
when i built my last house i put in a jetted tub and loved it. i liked that i could use it as a soaker with bubbles/no jets too. i never had any problems with mold or keeping it clean. i can say it was a big selling feature for the person who bought my house last year.
I say buy the soaker tub, but get a hot tub for outside. I think it was our best purchase ever.
Thanks for everyone's input! We have decided to go with a garden tub and hopefully get an actual hot tub for outside...someday :)
I'd love a soaking tub. That's how I'd use it, and for the cost-savings, as well.
For what it's worth, you can buy jets that attach to the side of your tub (not permanently) for pretty cheap if you ever did want some jet action. I've seen them at Kohls. :)

Hey everyone!
So we will be building a house soon (hopefully) and we know we want an oversized tub...either a jet tub or a garden (soaking tub). BUT I cannot decide which one to go with. The jets would be nice if we ever want them, but a soaking tub is easier to take care of, plus I have a feeling this is the majority of how I would use the tub (just to relax and soak). The soaking tub will probably be a bit cheaper, $500 or so, give or take. Which would you get & why? THANKS!! :)
