@sunangel08:  I don’t think that a month is too late. Next time your FH mentions that it doesn’t sparkle as much as he’d like, mention that “I think I might have figured out why”, and then go to the jewler together to discuss it.

Also, did your FH see moulds, sketches, etc. of the product? He should have had to sign off on something. If there’s any documentation of you specifying a pave band, then you definitely have an extra leg to stand on.

I would try to casually bring it up…not as a ‘it doesn’t shine because it’s the wrong setting’ way, but a ‘did you ask him to make it a channel set?’ type way. So you’re just trying to make sure you guys got what you paid for.

Also, I’ve seen pave set bands that don’t shine due to poor quality diamonds.

definitely agree with yellowshoe. i think it would be best if you ask him whether you asked for channel set, because if he didn’t, it was the jeweller’s fault!

I get the sentimental part, but from a business perspective, if your FI has the mock ups and contract, and they say pavé, then you guys didn’t get what you paid for and need to talk to the jeweler.

@sunangel08:  You’re not a horrible person. You have your taste, you specifically asked for something, and you got a product that didn’t match your expectations. Where the real issues crop up is when the girl whines how she doesn’t have a 2ct princess-cut ring when she didn’t tell her BF what she wanted in the first place!

YUP.  OP, you’re not selfish.  You two created the ring together, and it didn’t come out as planned.  Very different.

@sunangel08:  honestly, i would feel the same way you do. you shouldn’t feel bad either especially because THIS IS WHAT YOU ASKED FOR!!! I would probably discuss with FI first, like yellowshoes suggested. See if he would agree that you guys could go speak to the jeweller together!

@sunangel08:  Curious about what happened! (I know this is awhile ago). I JUST had the same thing happen. My FI proposed on Sunday and didn’t realize the ring was set TOTALLY wrong compared to the pictures we gave the Jeweler. We went in right away (last night) to get it fixed. Crazy to have your ring reset right away, but when it’s the jewelers “mea culpla” nothing else you can do. You should have the ring you love! =) I hope you do!

I definitely think that you should let him know that the jeweler did not make the ring that you asked for. Then you guys can decide on your options. He should definitely know how you feel.
