I don't have any experience with local stores, but I've gotten a ring resized at Marks and Morgan Jewelers (same as Kay or Jareds) and my wedding band was purchased and sized at Helzberg. My band is a channel set band and was sized down from a 6.5 to a 3.25 and it's perfect.

@MsPanda: I had my jewelry resized at a local jeweler in Sellwood, if that's not convenient for you, my mom had her rings resized at Fred Meyer Jeweler, they were inexpensive ($20 each I think) and did a good job.

@Lexy: & @misskoala: Thank you for your input I used to go to this little place in town but now they are shut down I had no idea where to go. I just want to make sure they will do a amazing job due to it being from my late grandmother. and it being my somthing old on my wedding day.

I took my 1920's engagement ring to Artisan Designs (www.artisansdesigns) on 3rd downtown to have it sized.  There's a ton of scrollwork along the band so I was pretty nervous about how it would come out but they did an EXCELLENT job.  I can barely tell where the work was done.  Additionally, they did some extra etching around the basket that had worn down over the years, and retipped my prongs for free.

They also did all the custom Jewelry for the last Twilight movie, all the Cullen crest stuff.

I highly recommend them, esp. for antique/period pieces.  They really know their stuff, and it's important considering the alloy metals they used back in the day are often difficult to work with nowadays - esp. if a jeweler isn't aware how old the piece is.
