So I had my heart set on jcrew dresses for my bridesmaids. Unfortunatley I am unhappy with their color choices. I started looking into the Jim Hjelm line and they look really cute. Has anyone used them for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses? and if so did they fit your girls well once ordered? It’s so hard to tell if a size 12 is going to look good on a size 4 girl once it comes in. I don’t want my girls to have to pay a fortune on alterations.

Don’t guess about whether or not they’ll look good – go try some on! At least with J Crew if you don’t like them after you receive them you can return them (unless they are final sale). I think Jim Hjelm makes some very pretty Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, but sadly I think they have a hefty price tag as well, so be sure to bear that in mind.

I just wore one yesterday for a wedding that I was in. I am 5’4 and 125 pounds, I usually wear a size 4. The Jim Hjelm was a size 8 and only needed minor alterations.
I know I’ve mentioned this before on another post, but I was just so happy with them and their prices. You can probably get the same exact dresses direct from the designer for $75-$100 cheaper using netbride.com

Yeah IMO they are expensive. And I’m not sure many of them are practical for more than a wedding. A friend of mine had one (gorgeous) but it was $300 she said. Eek.

I did have girls go try them on. but not all of them could be there. and it’s just so hard to imagine it in their size. They are actually a lot better priced than i thought. All the ones i was trying on were around 200 and the store i would get them through gives us 25% off for using Savvi formalwear.
Thanks i will have to check out netbride.com

I love jim Hjelm and Alvina Valenta-i’ve worn both, and yes they were expensive, but I felt amazing in the dresses and to me that is worth the money. I’m weird like that though.

I am using JH for my dresses and I think they are worth the price – mine are around $200. I looked at a lot of other brands, and found the quality lacking, IMO.

My girls had Jim Hjelm dresses! They all LOVED their dress. All of miy ladies were built differently, still looked good. I have to say though, I think that was more the style of the dress than the designer – which is what I think is standard. Here is ours – they were 220. I found this to be a good price based on quality and fit as compared to other brands we looked at. I normally wear a size 4 or 6, and I ordered one (loved it that much!) and took an 8 with minor alterations.
