Yay!!! Dress shopping is SO fun and Jim Hjelm makes some GORGEOUS gowns! Do you have any particular styles in mind? I was dead-set on my dress since the moment I saw it months and months ago, and when I tried it on I loved it even more, but the ONE dress that might make me budge from my choice before we write out the check is a JH!
haha. I have a couple styles I love. One in particular is a all lace diamond back number. But. I know I won't be going with that one because I'm really petite (skinny) so I need something that will give me more curves. I tried on something similar by Watters and my suspicions were affirmed.
I def have other styles I want to try on but my philosophy is to be very open minded.
I tried on another designer couple weekends ago (one that I would've never pull off the rack myself but the awesome bridal consultant did!). I really liked it and the dress did a lot for my petite figure and will most likely order IF I don't find a JH I love this weekend and am able to purchase preowned within budget.
Which one did you go with???
Hi Girls!
Just wanted to let you know that the JH experience was bust!
I felt like the whole time the sales consultant was trying to push me into making a decision. In the past salons I've always walked through first and pulled dresses. I liked this because I got to see their stock and I think it's a good indication to her what my tastes are. Well, this was not the case. Everything she pulled I did not like even though I told her time and time again I was really open to trying any styles. Yet she kept pulling the same styles.
I told her my main point coming in was to try JH but she never pulled any for me to try on! Only the ONE that I pulled at the beginning. Which by the way I was none too impressed with the quality or lace. :(
And I have to say a part of me kept comparing every dress I was trying on to the Casablanca I had previously tried on. None of them made me look or feel as good! Haha.
Going back to my local salon on Saturday to try the Casablanca gown on again and try on some new 2010 stock that should be in. Hopefully will be placing a ordering this weekend!!
Thanks for your help!
Sorry it was a bust, but it seems like a good sign that you keep going back to that Casablanca! At least you are not completely dressless. Which one was it? I love Casablancas.
Is it completely conceited that I think it does more for MY figure (lack thereof) than the models?? Hahha. I think it looks better in real life. We're not doing the bow though. I might be reusing it as a sash.
Aw, Gerbera! I'm so sorry to hear about your JH experience. That's disappointing! The Casablanca dress is gorgeous... love the ruched detailing at the bust! ;o)
Thanks!
Yeah, come to think of it, it does have everything I want in a gown.
Simple. Sweatheart neckline. Low back. Mermaid. And the vertical ruching is def a plus for my lack of bust! Hahah.

I'm SO excited!!!
I've been lusting after JH gowns since being engaged. But of course, where we currently live, no salons carry JH.
But. This weekend we're going home to NYC and I have an appointment at a salon! Yay for dress shopping with my mom! Yay for my niece trying on flower girl dresses!
Hopefully I just don't fall in love with a very new design which would greatly decrease my chances of finding it preowned.
