Can you do a rotation for a few months and work in a different unit? I know my mom was an RN and she worked in ICU, when she got burnt out, she would do a rotation in a different unit, ER, Post Surgery, etc.
I don't like my job but I don't think I'm burnt out. I think that its pretty boring and doesn't really fit my personality.
I guess I am just getting burnt out because of people who have babies who end up in the NICU and then never come to see them...makes me feel like "What the hell are we saving your child for?" IDK. I know that's a bad way to look at it, but sometimes I can't help it. I'm thinking maybe PACU, or day surgery or something might be a better idea for me? I hate ER and I won't work adult ICU or med surg. lol I even talked to hubs about going to school to be a photographer and he told me I was nuts. But really, I think I need a serious change in my life. I've only been a nurse for 2 years. :( HELP!!
I kinda worry about this going into medicine, but I always tell myself that I can go into a different field, yet be within the same vicinity. I think people in wards like NICU and cancer wards can get burnt out b/c they see so much of the bad and sometimes they overshadow the rewards.
Do you have your BSN? If not, there are RN-BSN programs that you could do to get a bachelors and then you could use your bachelors as a stepping stone into masters programs. You live in Texas--there are SO MANY graduate programs down there. You could do NP school or PA or Anesthetics....
I get that you're emotional, but you're saving the child for the child's life. Who cares how much time the parents can come spend with the baby?
I think you need to watch an inspirational video or something. Saving lives should be very rewarding. What did you love about your job before? Try to get that back.

Ok, I know this isn't really LOUNGING, but I think I am starting to hate my job. I work in a NICU and I used to love it, but I think I'm getting burnt out. :( I wish I knew what to do. Anyone else starting to feel burnt out at work? (Esp. RNs?)
