Gosh, sorry you are in such a predicament.  Can you explain your dilemma and see if they can accomodate you on another day?  If not, you are going to need a job, so you might need someone to sub for you for the open house.

Good call on doing it early. It’s a long drive, BUT, you can pull the "i’m dedicated to my students" card, too, to nudge a little bit about how much you care about your kids. Since it’s FOR a teaching position, surely they’ll understand that you have a class of students right now that still need tending to. If not…maybe they will do a phone interview or somethign comprable or see you on another day and make an exception since this is an open house, not just a day you can hire a sub?

Go figure on the timing, eH?Hope you get it!!!

I agree with ejs4y8 – the administrators of the new school will probably respect your desire to fulfill your commitments to your current students. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
