- Wedding: February 2010
After TWELVE MONTHS of unemployment with HARDLY a nibble here nor there, my husband has FINALLY secured the PERFECT job at a TOP NOTCH employer.
We got married 9 months ago, and it has been the absolute hardest thing to handle. Our savings were completely depleted pretty soon in, and it has been rice and beans to just to make ends meet – and some weren’t met.
They say the first year of marriage is the hardest – well, I can definitely attest because money stress is the worst kind! I have beared the burden of being the sole breadwinner (grad school salary, anyone?) and I feel light as a feather with that burden lifted! I can only imagine happiness from here because it couldn’t have gotten worse!
If you are out of work or your significant other is, you have my deepest sympathies. It is the most demoralizing experience and for a man it is even worse – their work is deeply connected to their self-esteem and pride and nothing a wife can do will soothe that wound. What trying times.
We found one website to STAND OUT in terms of honest, knowledgable advice: askamanager.org. Hiring manager Allison Green asks questions “Dear Abby” style and her guide to interviewing and getting the job is AMAZING. We’ve read it all and tried everything, but it was her advice and insight on her blog that helped us get an edge, I believe.
Thank you to all you bees for your support and advice as well.
HE FINALLY DID IT!! Sending him off to work today was the best feeling ever. Now I gotta get my WIFE act together – wash, iron, pack that lunch!! Uh oh! HAHA!
