Revenge is a dish best served cold but for John Mayer, its best served in a song. After being dissed by Taylor Swift in the song “Dear John”, John Mayer retaliates with his own post-split serenade called “Paper Dolls.” So which song is the better break-up song: Taylor Swift’s “Dear John” or John Mayer’s “Paper Dolls?”

I hate all things Taylor Swift so I have to go John Mayor (not that I really like him either, but he beats Taylor Swift in my book any day).

I chose John Mayer, even though I like both of them. Mostly because I hate the lyric from Dear John: “Don’t you think nineteen’s too young/To be played by your dark, twisted games.” And this: “You should’ve known/Don’t you think I was too young/You should’ve known.” Last I checked, nineteen was considered an adult, and you entered into this relationship willingly. Also, he was known to be kind of a dick in relationships. I find “Dear John” to be exceptionally whiny and “why me.” I like a lot of her other breakup songs, though.

I heard the John Mayer song in the car for the first time this morning. I really make an effort to listen to new songs all the way through the first time, to give them a fair chance and maybe let them grow on me. But I couldn’t do it — Paper Doll was the absolute worst drivel I’ve ever heard. The rhymes and lyrics were boring and predictable and the melody itself was so awful … oh god … it was either change the radio station or bail out of my car at 60mph on the freeway just to get away from it. Haha sooooo … not a fan of that one.

Yea I just listened to the whole thing because I’d never heard it before…and I REALLY don’t like Taylor Swift so I wanted to go for John….but that was awful. and BORING as hell.

Didn’t they break up years ago? This reeks of desperation, no one is paying attention to them 🙁
I think they are both vapid so didn’t vote.

John Mayer has major sex appeal and I love some of his songs but that song is just awful. Plus I love me some Tswift. Except her song 22, that one makes me want to gouge my eyes out.

At first I was going for Taylor because her lyrics and rhythm of her song sounds way better. But
@mgol25: made a good point. If you take her lyrics in consideration, she does sound whiny and pity. She’s an adult and knows all too well his reputation and not every relationship is “blue skies.” She was a little too harsh on him and I’m sure she wasn’t so perfect in their relationship either.
I love John Mayer’s music, but I have to agree with @iarebridezilla: And @soontobemrsm11: , the song was boring, blah and too simple. The lyrics we’re too simple and boring. Taylor was more clever in her lyrics as a good poet, writer but the reason behind her song was too harsh and one sided.
