I definitely started having back pain early on – like 12-13 weeks.  Knee pain came soon after.  I think it was from the relaxin.  I iced and heated, and it felt like they were always inflamed. It hurt to bend them in prenatal yoga.  Oddly enough, the back pain and knee pain totally disappeared around 25-26 weeks.  You’d think, that would be when it gets worse!

@PrncssDva:  My lower back and sciatic have been KILLING me, you are not alone! I went for a prenatal massage, and she said it’s because all your muscles are already stretching out and your centre of balance is starting to shift a bit, so the muscles are reacting differently. There are also some chemicals being released that are making your muscles more elastic, so if your regular stretches aren’t working, that’s why (that was the case for me!). She recommended I also see a chiropractor and I’m sure I’ll go in for more massages as time goes on. I find ice works best for me on my lower back and sciatic, and as much as it can hurt, making sure I go for a walk every day to use and stretch the muscles, I usually feel better after about 10 minutes of walking. The masseuse was going to email me some prenatal stretches and yoga poses as well, so I’ll make sure to share them when I hear from her!

I had some minor lower back ache around that time then it went away during the 2nd trimester.  Now I”m at the end of the 2nd will be 3rd Tri next week (yippie)… I started having really bad back pain over the last two weeks.  So bad that I am only getting a few hours sleep each night.  I called my doctor and they gave me some things to try.  I also posted on here and some of the bees gave me tips to try to. Look for my post. It was only a few days ago.  I have been feeling a lot better and sleeping more since I’ve started doing some of these things.

I grew-up a dancer and danced in musicals until I was 32.  So I’ve always had back pain and knew that I’d have trouble with it when pregnant.  I hope you can find some relief!
