I'm pretty sure we're going to use Men's Wearhouse. FI and I visited last month and got a great impression, plus, they match colors to David's Bridal colors (I'm in the same boat with out of town participants!) So far, I've gotten a good vibe from them, and they seem to have pretty good deals when renting tuxes in groups!
Mr. Meowerson doesn't want to use Men's Wearhouse because he bought a suit from there once and he had a pretty bad experience...couldn't get the sizing right and then messed up the alterations. Their free tux rental for the groom is tempting though!
My FI is completely opposed to Jos A Bank after getting a tux from them for another wedding. They argued with him that one of his legs is shorter than the other when he complained that the pant lengths did not match.
He is going to use Men's Warehouse.
I don't think either is better than the other.
I think we are leaning towards Men's Warehouse because they have the suit Mr. Tattoo wants to wear.
We purchased suits for the GMs at JAB, but that particular JAB's store manager was too pushy and condescending. It still bothered me 3 days later that i returned the suits and bough at MW. I'm sure all stores are different, but there was no way i was letting that lady get commission from me.
Jos A Bank is better quality and has a better selection than Mens Wearhouse - they also really good sales
Both are more expensive than independents, and you can get a free tux for the groom anywhere. Check local options, as neither MW nor JAB carries a local inventory and therefore cannot handle last minute changes/exchanges
FH used to work for a tuxedo rental company. He will never use Men's Warehouse for that reason. It may have just been our area, but they had people on a daily basis come in begging for help b/c mens warehouse messed up and they needed something last min. I'm sure things vary by store though.
I've been following this convo and am wondering if I haven't made a mistake. My fiance and I went to Tuxedo Junction because they were offering an unbelievable deal - 50% off all tuxedos, groom's tux is free, and they threw in a gift card to a local restaurant, just for registering. It was hard not to pass up. The staff was so friendly and has been super helpful and encouraging in regards to all of my worries - all but one of the groomsmen are from out of town. Because they are nationwide, it's easy for them to have my groomsmen go into their local stores and they tuxes will be ready here in Buffalo. It was really affordable, and easy, so i'm wondering now if it's too good to be true.
To add to what I said previously, I know at mens warehouse (at least the ones by me) the reason the grooms tux is free is because they add an additional cost to the other tuxes. So it might be free for the groom but its costing the bridal party. FH told me this and I didn't believe it so to proove it we went to the mens wearhouse at the mall and they confirmed it! Not so directly but when they were giving prices its not hard to figure out. Savvi also does this so its not uncommon. Jos A Banks might do that as well.
@june42011: I'm not sure what they might have told you at MW to give you that impression, but it's a new one on me. As far as I know, MW charges the same amount for a single rental as they do for each rental in a group. I KNOW that's the case with Savvi, because Mr. Formal is part of the Savvi network. Maybe there was some confusion at MW because of their Perfect Fit program, where you get $30 off full price (which no one ever pays) in exchange for giving them all your contact info so they can spam you with news, sales, etc. That discount is available to everyone in the party. I don't know of any tuxedo rental company that charges group members more in order to supply the groom with a free one-- I'm not sure how they'd get away with it!
@mrformalaz: I can't speak for Savvi as we didn't actually walk in there and test it out but the MW we went to it was not an impression it was obvious thats what they were doing. The price started to fluctuate the longer we were there. My cousin used them for his wedding so I'm not trying to bash them or anything I'm just mentioning what FH knew from his time working for a tuxedo rental company. Again like I said I think its based on the particular store.
We just purchased 8 suits from JoS.A.Bank - We had a wonderful consultant. He got us a deal we could not resist. Buy one suit at $177, get the second for $57!!! Cannot beat that!
Not trying to fight but i work for the men's wearhouse and i know for a fact( atleast at my store) if there was an issue with the fit we would fix it. and for the tuxedo rentals as long as they TRY on the tuxedos before FRIDAY at 5 we would be able to order in another size. rentals we can't taper or alter besides the length because its a rental item. JAB is way more exensive and the rentals are terrible. Thanks :)
oh and we never charge more for the wedding partys tuxedos just to give the groom his free. the prices are 59-149 for anyone and after 5 paid rentals the groom can get his rental for free or he can get a free suit to keep
@av72012: I am a bride but also a MW employee. I have been in the formalwear/wedding industry for the past 6 years. MW does NOT build the cost of the groom's free tux into the other's rentals in any store, so i am sorry that some of you were misinformed. As she said, we would have gladly fixed the issue if notified a day or two before and in the store the same day if we would have been given the opportunity to do so. I also can tell all the brides with ABSOLUTE certianty that not only do we offer very competitve prices, as low as $59.99 up to $219.99 for our new VERA WANG tuxedo, but we also have a LOW PRICE guarantee. We will match or beat ANY competitor's offer, NATIONWIDE. We have a great selection of suits and can coordinate suits or tuxedos for your wedding with ease. We have over 1500 locations including Anchorage, AK. May I also say that MW is a great company to work for, has treated me very well, and offers great benefits to their employees, because they care about them. We are a national chain but we all stand behind George's "you'll like the way you look, we guarantee it". Please msg me brides if you need help or have questions, would be happy to help!!!
Mens wearhouse is NOT a Tuxedo Store. It has Nothing in stock for any last minute changes nor does it have ample inventory in store to choose from. You pick from a book or look at 2-4 maniquins I have 35 years in the formalwear industry and All the top makers know me. so really Mens wearhouse cannot compare to the local one on one Real Tuxedo, Formal wear specialist. As far as out of towners ..they go to a real formal wear store and ask for a curteous measurement (which is free).
We have been to MW to look at suits to purchase for the groomsmen, service was okay. But not impressed. We are going to check out JosBank soon.
We were going to go with Joseph A. Banks until we saw that MW was going to have the Vera Wang Black collection. We went with MW because my fiance was able to see the display jacket in person and try it on.

Hi ladies -
Looking into renting tuxes and originally I was going to go with Men's Wearhouse but I just found out Jos A Banks also rents tuxes. I was wondering which one is better. I hear a lot of mixed reviews with Men's Wearhouse where with Jos A Bank I've only heard good things. Any experience with renting from either? I haven't visited each yet but I'm somewhat leaning towards Jos A Banks...Also I want to stick with a national retailer bc of out of town participants.
