Hmmm, I'm not sure about black. I know black is becoming more popular for weddings, but I don't know about for a 9 year old.
Do you have another accent color? Or do they have a color at david's that is lighter than your color? JR bridesmaids (or MOH's, for that matter) don't necessarily have to match the other bridesmaids, they just need to coordinate. Or you could hire someone to make a dress for you (depending on time), since it sounds like you weren't in love with the David's options.
Our colors are watermelon with black and white accents. I thought about her wearing a white dress, but then she just will look like a flower girl. Its really a tough one. If we did black for her, I thought about adding a watermelon sash, or something to accent it. I hadnt thought about a lighter shade of pink though. I will check into that and see what they have in another color.
I had trouble finding Jr. Bridesmaid dresses for my girls who are about that same age! I ended up chosing a dress by Watters (which they're slightly more expensive...eek) but we ordered it in watermelon, such a gorgeous color. Watters has a great selection of jr and flower girl dresses, and all the sizes go up to a 14.
Here is the site: http://watters.com/catalog_list_all.php?coll=wawa
And this is the dress we got: http://watters.com/product.php?coll=wawa&showid=779 Maybe you could do something like this in watermelon with a black sash?
Anyway, good luck!
I second the Watters vote - the WaWa dresses are just adorable. My fiance's daughter is my junior bridesmaid and will be 8 1/2 when we get married. Here is the dress we ordered for her (in the cotton candy pink shown). They do have a watermelon shade available.
I like it because it's girly w/o being babyish, but also not too mature. I still want her to look like an 8-year old, not some pre-teen sexpot!!! My future stepdaughter loves the dress (and she's a total girly girl so I knew the combo of pink and sequins would win her over!)
J.Crew has some very cute and age appropriate junior bridesmaids type dresses. The regular bridesmaids collection may be too big for your daugter but I found this adorable dress in a watermelon-ish color. Hmm. Maybe the photo will post now...

They have a "jr. bridesmaid" section and may have a color that will work for you.
Good luck!

I am going to have my daughter who will be 9 at the time of my wedding be my MOH. There is a little problem with finding her a dress though. I went to Davids bridal this past weekend looking at BM dresses and started to look around for my daughter's dress. They have a very limited amout of styles for Jr BM dresses and i believe only 2 in the color of our wedding. We are going to do watermelon BM dresses and the guys will have black tuxs with pink vests. Here's my question, since she will be my MOH, would it look bad to have her in a black dress? Black will be part of our wedding colors anyway. I am just really having a hard time finding her something in the watermelon. Has anyone else ever had this sort of situation?
