So for the past 4 days, I’ve been involved in a rather interesting project. My wedding is exactly 3 weeks from today, and for the past 3 months, I’ve been making a concerted effort to lose some weight and tone up. Despite tweaking my eating habits to make them as healthy as I possibly can, cooking my own meals instead of going out, and doing at least 30% more exercise than usual…I’ve managed to gain 10 pounds.
My doctor is working hard to find the cause, since my life habits are clearly not to blame. Sadly, the weight gain has left me more depressed than I’ve been in years. I feel ugly and tired all the time, and when I started to lose the motivation to keep up my healthy pace, I realized I needed try something new.
So, I started researching juice fasts. I went out and got myself a good juicer, and now I’m on day 4!
Day 1 was the most difficult, and my theory is that this is the reason why many people opt not to fast. It’s very, very tough to power through that day, because the hunger pangs are excruciating! I was craving EVERYTHING. I just wanted to chew something! Thankfully, when mealtimes rolled around, the fresh fruit and veggie juice was a whole lot more satisfying than I predicted.
Day 2 got a little better. I was a bit cranky, but not in as much discomfort. The cravings were still there, but I had more confidence by that point. Plus, all my belly-bloat due to water retention had vanished, and didn’t come back even after a long day of work.
Yesterday (Day 3), I hardly thought about food at all. I am feeling some caffeine withdrawal (coffee lover here) so I started yawning a lot mid-afternoon, about the time when I’d usually take a break from work to get an espresso.
Today, I woke up feeling great. I have lost some weight, based on the look of my midsection (I don’t weigh myself. I used to have an eating disorder and keeping a scale around is something I still can’t handle. All of my weigh-ins happen at the doctor’s, which is why I know I gained so much). My belly (my “trouble zone”) is much flatter already. My skin is clearer, and my eyes look more “awake”. I haven’t had any cramps or gastric issues, at least not yet.
One thing that is a HUGE perk, at least for me, is how much better I’m sleeping. I’m finding it much easier to relax when I get into bed, and I wake up feeling really rested, even on nights like last night when I didn’t get as many hours as I would have liked.
I’m planning to keep this up for at least 10 days, hopefully 14. I’m taking a comprehensive array of vitamins, and I’m only using fresh, whole fruits and veggies for juicing. Also, I’m drinking plenty of water.
I’ll be posting updates on this thread as I go along. Wish me luck!
