We actually did ours in November so we could get it out of the way. So long as you don't register for things that are on clearance you should be fine. We had a few things that scanned as discontinued, but it lets you know right away so you can scan something else.
We did ours in December 2010, I know that was 8 months away but I was really excited about taking that little gun and clicking away at the stores. My fiance was teasing me that he would get me one of those guns for christmas.
Usually they anywhere between 6-9 months, but I just recently looked at mine not to check if anyone bought anything (because my shower is in April), but just to make sure nothing went out of stock.
I would say if you would like to do it, go right ahead!
I got married last July and we registered in January and didn't have any problems :)
I have an early September wedding and we have already registered. We started in December and some stuff is already discontinued-bummer. But we're pretty much done, and just hoping everything else stays in stock. It was easier to get it out of the way.
We registered a few weeks ago for pretty much everything except bedding (apparently Macy's changes their bedding stock every few months, so they told us not to register for that yet). We're still continuing to add stuff here and there though, and already I've had to replace 2-3 items that were renamed/discontinued.
We did ours back in October at C&B.
And we did the other one at JC Penney this past weekend!
We started ours last summer, and I keep an eye on them to make sure nothing needs to be replaced or updated. I live in fear our Fiestaware colors will be discontinued...
So pretty much what you all are telling me is I am way behind! Ha! I will get on it. I too am extremely exitec about the gun scanner. Lets hope I don't go overboard! :)
Our wedding is at the end of July and we just started last weekend. Most stores told us Feb. was the best time to register because the stores are getting their summer seasonal items in so your guests will be able to buy those items as well as the more stable year round things. Hope that helps :)
Ours was mostly done a few months ago. It's an easy, fun thing to get out of the way, and we can change it a bit as we go along.
I got married last July and we registered in November at one store and in January at another and we didn't have problems at all.
Have fun registering!
We started a couple of weeks ago. We wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to add or take away from the registry.
Our wedding is in August, and we started our registries last month - only because we wanted the information for our wedding website, which was sent out to our guests on the save-the-dates this month. And surprisingly, we've already received some gifts from our friends and family!
Another July bride here, we're doing ours SOON. We didn't want to register too early and have things go out of stock/be seasonal.
We registered over a month ago....but just for a few things. We are slowly adding things here and there....
I don't think we're going to do one. Not many people do them here. I guess we'll see once we get closer.
We started ours in December and are still slowly working on it. I go online and tweak it every now and then.. I feel like I have lots of time to do so, which is nice!
I'm getting married the first week in July as well and we registered last summer. Just to be clear, me and FI are in now in a LDR and we wanted to get as much done as possible while we were still in the same location before departing ways until our wedding date.
We have researched types of things we want on the registry, and have made quite a spectacular list, but figure we'll do it maybe in May, about a month before my bridal shower, probably right around the time when we will be feeling very POOR after paying for the wedding :)
We got our first gift yesterday! Pilsner glasses (for him) and Champagne flutes (for me). I guess I need to buckle down and pick out thank-you stationery!
We did ours at the beginning of January. So far nothing has really gone out of stock. Just keep an eye on it (like I need to remind you). And you never know when someone will buy something! We got our first present over a month ago!!!
We registered in January, but I'm planning on reviewing when we send out our invites to take out / replace anything that has gone out of stock. But I don't think most things you'd register for will go out of stock, especially if it's something they regularly carry. You could always ask the store. I know C & B will have their dishware change / go out of stock, so that's the only one I'm concerned about. But I'm not really worried about our Bed Bath and Beyond registry.

Has anyone out their done their gift registries yet? I am getting married the 1st weekend of July and I am not sure when to do this. If my math is right its only 4.5 months away. Crazy! :) I don't want to register too early then have a lot of things not available when people start buying.
