    Hello,

I will be planning a wedding reception next Friday. Our theme is "July Fourth" "Summer Fest/Summer Carnival" My parents are not from the US, so I came to the hive to get some ideas about what foods you think would fit into this theme. I am open to desserts, meat entrees and starches.

    Thanks hive!

Usually we have hotdogs and hamburgers. This year my mom is making some fun toppings for the hot dogs, like chili, cheese, onions, etc. For dessert, I always love the red white and blue theme, using blueberry and strawberries, like pies.

This is delicious and American's are the only people who will do potato, bacon, sour cream, and bacon in one bowl LOL

I got married last July the 4th and we had a very casual wedding and reception with very typical American/Southern comfort food which sounds very similar to what you are doing.  We went with barbecue (pulled pork sandwiches), baked beans, macaroni and cheese, hushpuppies and potato salad.  And as they say, there's nothing as American as apple pie (although we had cake as well).

You could do a white cake with blueberry filling on one layer and strawberries and whip cream on another!

I love the ideas of a baked potato bar and serving french fries in paper cones.  When I think of BBQs and 4th of July, I think of good lemonade and sweet iced tea.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I was thinking sliders, watermelon, and pie! The other ideas you guys have suggested sound great. Love the baked potato bar!
