@ModernCinderella:  You can go to any craft store like Michael's and buy a broom then decorate it with ribbons, flowers etc.  Some craft stores have them already made but they are usually all white.  You can also buy them online but some of them are VERY EXPENSIVE! I made my broom.  The whole thing cost about $2.50.  I only had ribbons and tulle though.  I wanted flowers etc. but DH wanted it simple.

Here is one from amazon.com for $14.99.

Here is another custom broom that I think is pretty for $54.  I think you could make it for about $10.00 or less.

@ModernCinderella: We don't have a Hobby Lobby around here so I don't know.  From what little I know about Hobby Lobby I would think you could.

ETA:  I'm sure you would be able to get the supplies you need to DIY.

I think you should learn the history behind before doing it.

Well, there are several traditions surrounding it from different cultures. One tradition is African American... and you will be pleased to know that there is also a Scottish/Celtic tradition of broom jumping, with different roots. Why not look into both?

We are definitely jumping the broom and you can make your own! I bought our broom from Michael's and decorated it yesterday! Good luck!

I'm African American and my fiance` is Russian but I plan to do it anyway because I'd like to incorporate both cultures into the wedding.
