Stupid question, but when is it okay to look at wedding dresses? My boyfriend and I were looking at rings and I chose one I love about a week ago. He said he thinks engagement will come in the next 1-2 months or so and wants to be married within a year.
So, today I got a random coupon for HUGE discounts on bridal gowns at a local shop. I have told myself I wouldn’t look at dresses until there was actually an engagement, but I’m pretty frugal and this would be a really good deal. Here’s my silly question: Do I go and check out the sale? Please talk me off this stupid little ledge! Thanks 🙂

I think I would wait until you are engaged and have a general idea of when you are getting married. I bought my dress too soon and I wish I hadn’t jumped the gun on it.

I think its too soon. I’d wait until the ring is on your finger– it will make it so much more special

I agree. I was taken in by the shiny “discount” sign. Thank you for saving me from myself!

I would wait until you are engaged. Almost a year went by from the first time FI and I looked at rings and when we got engaged. My BFF got engaged today (eeeee soo happy for her) and he waited 9 months from the first time when they looked at rings. So just wait patiently for your ring. It will make dress shopping so much more fun when you are engaged.

Sad to pass up a deal. They were giving away dresses for military brides with FI overseas and I don’t think my BF would have had a problem with me getting a dress for FREE. But you had to be engaged and they had to be deployed. So we were screwed either way.
