I've seen a couple other ladies out there who've gone who a long engagement and share my date. I thought maybe we could share what we are planning now and what we are waiting on and also why you decided to wait until 2011.
We planned a long engagement because I got braces put on in January and then my BF of 5 years proposed a month later, gotta love it lol. I'm supposed to get my braces off January 2011 so we figured June would give me some wiggle room and I really want a summer wedding.
So far, I've figured out what I'm doing for centerpieces, found a location, and picked out my dress.
Hi there,
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a long engagement. We are getting married June 3, 2011. We planned a long engagement so that we could properly save for this expensive event! I come from a very large family and we expect to have a guest list of close to 300! We've already booked the venue, and I'm doing a lot of leg work now as far as planning goes, hoping to ease the stress as we get closer to the big day!
My biggest dilemma right now is choosing a color scheme. I'm not looking for anything bold. I would like something champagne and pink but need a color to make it "pop"
Congrats on picking out your dress!!! What a feat so early on lol!
Thanks! I had no intention of doing so but when I put it on I just knew. I chose Yellow and Green for our color scheme. I love yellow and pink but my fi was like no pink so we went with green.
We are also both saving weekly for our wedding so hopefully we can do it all without credit cards.
Champagne and Pink are beautiful colors together.
Does anyone else love how the date sounds? I didn't pick it because of that but after I was just thinking about it and I think it just sounds good.
Our guest list is abot 200 or so and mostly out of town because my FI 's family is from Chatt and our friends are scattered (military and college).I've got our venues booked (Peachtree Christian and the Biltmore), our florist and idea for flowers/decor (Floral Matters), the caterer (Bold American), my dress (Lazaro from Bridals by Lori) and other things decided like our colors (chocolate brown, dusty rosy soft pink with ivory and gold accents), the bridesmaid dresses picked out (chocolate brown by Lazaro) and I'm looking at photographers, videographers, invitations, and booking our hotels and thinking about honeymoon. Ha the funny thing is, I've had most of this either decided or done for months!
We didn't plan on having a 2 year engagement but with my FI deployed and finishing up school (6 year plan), we decided to push it out instead of rush it. I was waaaaay too excited to wait to plan so I got my planner and went to work discussing and figuring out my vision and what we wanted.
To asun, yellow and green sounds SOOO pretty, very spring!! And to asun and Betz, I'm so glad I'm not the only one, too, with a really long engagement!! Have you had problems with people wondering why you're waiting so long or thinking you're crazy for planning so early?
Good luck with planning ladies, it's getting so close. I think it sounds so cool to be able to say that we're getting married next year! YAY!!
Our date is June 11, 2011! We've been engaged since Nov 2009, and a couple since Dec 2005. My FI is currently deployed so that is why our engagement is a tad bit long. But...at least we get all the time in the world to plan, book and scope out sales!
Any how, I agree with mrsmurraytobe about the fact that the date just sounds good! I didn't pick it just for the 11/11 motif either. It works because I am a teacher, most of my family and friends are teachers and we'll all be off for the summer by then. When I started saying it outloud to family and vendors I realized how well it flowed. I was even thinking about planning our last dance at exactly 11:11 pm. It would be cute because both my FI and I are superstitious about making a wish on 11:11. :-)
June 11th, 2011 is my wedding date as well! We got engaged on November 25th of 2009. My fiance is in medical school so it's taking us a little longer to save for our wedding so we decided waiting over a year would be our best option. We were deciding between June 11th or the 25th because the 11th is our original anniversary (11/11/07) of when we started dating! The 25th was the day he proposed. We went with the 11th because he will be starting his rotations shortly there after.
We already have our reception/ my dress/ our colors are Peacock Blue and Green, alot of our reception decorations and our photographer!
Better not to stress myself out in the end i guess!
Best of luck to all the June 11th, 2011 Brides!
I'm not a June 11 bride, but June 10 totally counts, right?
I'm waiting on the linens and food (buying). I've got lots done already, I'm actually pretty well past the concept stage.
Waiting on the wedding has a few reasons. Money. The fact that 2010 is going to be a crazy busy summer. Money. You get the idea. So excited to hear about all the plans other ladies have going.
It's good to hear I'm not the only one with booked vendors, bought items, etc. (past the concept stage)! Some people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them both reception and ceremony are already booked for my June 2011 wedding.
I'm soooooo glad to see that I am not the only one with such a long engagement!! I got engaged 12/17/09, getting married 06/10/11. We decided to wait because my FI is a teacher and proposed over Christmas break so we thought this summer would be too soon, so we planned on next summer. We dated for six years before we got engaged so another reason we decided to wait was so I could have the wedding I have always dreamed of, and having 18mo engagement financially is really helping us.
To be honest, sometimes I wish I would have just done it this summer because I just want to be married already! I love the planning process, but I think I would be able to make decisions a lot faster if I was in a time crunch. And I just want to be an official bride already! But I dont want to complain I know the wait will be completely worth it :)
I have chosen the wedding and reception site and booked it. The reception site is kinda all inclusive, so I have already chosen the menu, linens, cake, etc. I recently booked the photographer and have moved on to looking at DJ's. And I basically have a florist picked out however I am waiting a few months to book just due to financial reasons. And I just found my dress!!
I'm glad to hear all you girls planning is going good. I cant wait to be a June Bride!!
I'm a June 11, 2011 too!! My FI proposed on Dec 5, 2009, we've been together since Oct 11, 2007. The 11th was just a good date for us, seeing as that's the date we started going out! And yes, I just like the way it sounds 11/11!!! My other reason for choosing June of next year is that I really wanted a June wedding and 6 months did not feel like enough time to plan.
So far, I have the hall booked for the reception, the caterer & photographer are booked, and I have my dress!!! I know my colors, where we are having the ceremony (my parents back yard), who the flower girl & ring bearer are....annnnd a few other things are floating around in my brain! lol.
Only thing I don't really know is bridesmaids.....oh well...soon enough!
Another 6/11/11 bride here! I just got engaged April 10, 2010 were waiting all the way till next saummer because im starting medical school and the the only time ill have off is next summer, plus the longer engagement helps with being able to plan during school and from a distance. Ive got pretty concrete ideas on everything, booked a venue, have a wedding party and catering picked (but not booked) We're doing yellow and black/ sunflowers outdoor wedding. my next feat right now is really getting a photographer booked but this is one of the most importnat things to me and im on a strict budget so its taking a while :( but im glad to see some other people have lots of stuff done so far out, some of my friends who are married are surprised at having a venue and some other things done when the wedding is so far away!
Yay! This makes me so excited! We got engaged on Sept. 7, 2009 and decided to get married 6/11/11 so that we had enough time to save up for the kind of wedding we (I) dreamed of and also hopefully buy a house around the same time.
I have picked out my dress, ceremony and reception sites, and photographer. I'm also pretty certain about bridesmaids dresses. I totally get what you mean about people looking at you like you're crazy that you have so much planned already :) We are excited, ok? Haha.
PS. girls we are almost into the 300's in the countdown! When I got engaged 6/11/11 was 600-some days away :)
Hi! I'm excited to be a June 11, 2011 bride! We've been engaged since December of 2008. We picked a long engagement because I didn't want the stress of being a first year teacher and planning a wedding. I am a bit of a perfectionist, and I would go crazy! Hahaha! It's also perfect because we can save up all the money we need to pay off our wedding full by the time the big day arrives! So far we have the ceremony, reception, and photographer booked. We have a lot of things that we just need to get around and purchase. I think 6/11/11 is lucky!
I am another 6-11-11 bride-to-be! I wonder how many of us there actually are...it seems the very popular date.
I hope to have much more checked off my planning list after next week. (dress, reception venue- and everything that goes along with it, e-photos, hotel reservations booked, scoping out rehearsal dinner locations, and I don't really know what else, but I'm sure it's a lot more)
Good Luck to you all with your wedding planning!!
Not only am I a 6-11-11 bride, but 6-11-11 will be my 34th birthday as well :) We've been engaged since March of '09 and have only really started digging into the meat of planning "big stuff" in the last couple months. We have our reception venue, cake, caterer and photographer all booked... still need to nail down a ceremony site and mom and I are doing a 1-year-out flower trial next weekend.
Tomorrow marks the 365 day countdown... eek!
I"m 6-25-11. I have the place, photographer, and catering booked! (o: we were going to be 6-11-11 but the place we wanted was already booked that date. We decited to wait because we were way to busy to start any planning at the time we got engaged. We also wanted to save more moeny for the wedding.
This is a very popular date! I picked it because it was one of the dates our reception site had available, and the day before we met
. We are doing a vintage carnival theme, using the colors aqua and red.
Hi date twins :) I am getting married on 6/11/11 too!! i have the ceremony and reception venues booked, have the band booked, and have my dress! next up is bridesmaid dresses. I want to do long champagne dresses. My colors are ivory, peach, champagne, gold, pale pink and cream.
How have I missed this board, I thought I was the first one to start a june 2011 board post. Anywhoo!! Love the way 6.11.11 sounds. And I wanna get married at 1:11pm. haha. I wanted to do 11:11am, but I think that's kinda early. We are at 312 days ladies!! How exciting. Well we have been together since Sept 2006, and engaged since August 1, 2009. So it seems so close....
@ mrsmurray: lol, I TOTALLY picked it because of how it sounds! We got engaged a little over a year ago. At first, I wanted the coolest sounding date on the calendar-- 9/10/11-- but then I realized that was when I would be first starting law school, so yeah. June 11, 2011 ended up being perfect! We're having a long engagement so I can be finished with undergrad and focus on enjoying our big day!
@rmw61111: OMGosh...I had NOT thought about doing a 1:11 wedding before. That is *TOO* perfect! I'm going to have to think about that one!
Happy planning to everyone! If you have want to share in the planning process even more, check out the posting in the June 2011 boards about sharing your blogs, so we can all follow along. :-)
@misspuppylove: People think it's crazy when they hear it. When I was talking to florist they would ask what time the wedding was, and I told them, and they just looked at me like I was crazy, then sort of did a little chuckle, like I was joking. Ummm...I'm not. That's what time I want it to be. It's unique and I like it. So they can go somewhere else if they don't like it! It's my wedding...I mean our wedding.
Thanks for agreeing with me.
im june 4th 2011!!! i have church and venue booked...dj booked....dress ordered...photographer booked and i have a few DIY projects already started like table number holders and stuff... i also have my hairdresser booked and we are going sept 18th for the girls!!
We are going Sept 11th to do BM dress shopping and the 12th for a bridal show.
June 11, 2011 is my wedding date, mostly because 11 has always been my lucky number....now everyone asks why I didn't choose 11/11/11 and that's mostly because we live in missouri and I do not want to deal with snow on my wedding day not to mention it is a Friday and would be difficult for eveyone to be there.
I'm a 6-11-11 bride too! We first started dating in June, and we got engaged this past June, so a June wedding seemed fitting for us. We have our ceremony and reception booked, officiant, photographer, and DJ. Oh! and of course, I have my dress :)Next up is florist, and bridesmaid dresses! I'm going to NYC in October to visit my sisters and go dress shopping. Happy planning to everyone.
Hi ladies!
Another June 11 bride - I'm getting married in Australia and the date is 11-6-11 there, which I loved. We are halfway through a LONG engagement (August 09!) and chose this date for a few reasons: it's winter at home for us (yay!) and prices are cheaper, and because my parents were married on the same weekend, so it's kind of traditional and made me just that little bit squee-ish!
Church, reception, and photographer booked so far - lots more to do!
Hi weekend twins! I think we picked a venue and a date today!! We need to make sure our vendors and family are available before we put down our deposit, but I am pretty sure I will be a 6-12-2011 bride. :)
Under 200 days.....
Almost 6 months...
Any one else starting to freak a little?
I love that we're in the 190's! But then, I've been on the wedding countdown since August 2009, ha. I think I'm more excited now because I FINALLY have a wedding dress. Squee!
We got engaged August of 2009...but we have had our date picked since Dec. 2006. So we were in the THOUSANDS! So now I'm like WOAH.
So excited that it's less than 200 days away! As soon as we saw that number, my fiancé and I started a serious workout regimen so we can indulge during the holidays.
I'm soo exiited to be at 185 days! I've got so much left to do but I don't think anything can bother me. =) We've been engaged since Feb. 2009, so its been a long wait.
any other June 11 brides getting married in New York City?
I'm a 6/10/11 bride as well!
We got engaged October 28, so only about a 7 1/2 month engagement, which is just long enough for me!! I'm a big fan of short engagements because I plan fast and am not very patient. :) But we had to pick the venue for the ceremony and reception about a month before we were engaged in order to get the place on the date we wanted. It was booked every single other Saturday and Friday in June and I always wanted to be a June bride. It's just perfect.
I do love the sound of 6.10.11 just as much- I had looked at 6.11.11 too and they're both adorable dates. I'm big on numbers.
181 days to go! :) So excited.
I have been engaged for 4 years :) Our wedding day is June 10, 2011. yes, it is on a friday. I picked this date because we are getting our ENTIRE ceremony for FREE and that is the date the church had open :)
