I was wondering who else on WeddingBee was getting married in June 2011, and how much you had planned so far.
Hi! I am a June 2011 bride :) I am a super planner - Just got engaged December 8, but was expecting that for a while. So, I have pretty much everything figured out that I want, I just need to finalize. I am booking a private home for my destination wedding ceremony/reception, and they don't book any further than a year out... so that has stopped me from making everything final. How about you rmw??
Well, I got engaged August 1st. And that was also expected for a while. :D We dont have a lot of stuff planned because of money, and because we have a while yet, and we are both knee-deep in our senior year of college. We have venues picked, but we don't have them reserved or anything because of money. But that's about as far as we have gotten. I'm going to try on dresses tomorrow though. :D I have a few dresses I love, and have an opportunity to buy one of them, cheap, so I have to go try on some to see if that style even looks good on me. And I have a few little things I've picked up random places, like bells, and what not.
I've been engaged since valentines day. I've got my photographer, reception/ceremony location, minister, and dress done. I've also got my centerpieces figured out!
@RMW We're date twins, YAY!
@asunw::We are!!! How exciting! And you have been busy!! What are your colors?
I've been engaged longer so I've just been trying to get things checked off, lol. My colors are center of daisy yellow and grass green. What are yours?
Hi everybody!
I guess I am the June 11, 2011 triplet!
Is it crazy that we are already planning? Some people think it's way too early which is totally spoiling the fun but I am enjoying the pace and glad I can think things through, especially the logistics. I am learning photoshop and have been so inspired by this blog that I am doing my own invites and stationery. I have my dress believe it or not, it was the first one I tried on! It was 60% off so I couldn't resist!
I have 12 excel spreadsheets for the flowers, photo checklist, budget....have done my guestlist!!
Am I nuts or what? I'm not hiring a planner so I'm just paranoid and want to be super-organized!!
What are your colors btw???
@sweedishberry - I have spreadsheets too!! And inspiration pages for each aspect of the wedding! Haha - my colors are chocolate and a medium pink :)
@waterprincess - yay for 06/25/2011! I've been engaged since 03/24/09, so it's been a little while! But, we just started planning recently. I agree with you rmw61111, money is our issue, too. We've booked our reception venue and photographer, and we have our ceremony venue picked out (too bad they only book a year in advance so my HUGE amount of time isn't paying off!). We've pretty much chosen our caterer, but we haven't put money down yet.
The big challenge at this point- finding groomsmen! I have four bridesmaids, but my fiance doesn't have really close friends. Eeps! It's going to be like I Love You Man!
Glad there are other people who still have a while to go in the planning process!
@ swedish berry - I'm an August 2011 bride and I'm crazy-organized like you too, don't worry!!! I've got spreadsheets and photos already saved! And for those who say it's spoiling the fun, don't listen! My rationale is this: Being able to get all this planning done now means I won't be too crazy later on in the game! Hopefully. lol! I go nuts planning for about a week or two, then I take a few weeks off from even looking at wedding magazines or blogs, it's a good pace! That way I don't get too caught up in all the pretty inspiration (and convince myself that I MUST DIY EVERYTHING when I see how gorgeous everyone else's DIY stuff turns out!!) - it's a great way to think things through and work out the logistics and mull over what ideas you really just got carried away with and what you keep coming back to that HAS to make it into the wedding.
Example: a month ago, I stumbled on a blog where the bride hand-crafted and painted individual bud vases for each of her guests, put a lollipop in each vase, and tied their name and table number on each vase with hand-stamped and gocco'd tags. I WAS CONVINCED! I had to have it in our wedding! So after 3 hours of stewing about that project and researching color options and clay pricing and where to buy bulk lollipops, I realized I was drinking the crazy juice and shelved it. Now I'm pretty sure I'll stick with the standard escort cards and just splurge on favors at each chair. If I only had 6 months to plan, I probably would have made a snap judgement and bought all the materials and been stuck with a project that was WAAAYYY over my head!
At least that's what I say now. Talk to me in July, 2011, when I'll probably be burning my hands on hot glue and tying ribbons around misshapen vases until 4am!! lol
Happy Planning!!
@asunw @RMW @swedish berry Count me in as the 4th June 11th bride!
I have been in college and am currently taking an online intersession class which will fulfill my last 2 credits left to graduate. I have a break from undergrad to graduate school which starts in the fall so I'm trying to do a lot of the wedding planning now. So far I bought a wedding dress, have bridesmaid dresses picked out, and we have two wedding venues picked out but can't book them until we're a year out. We have a caterer picked, and wedding music, but I feel like we can't do much until we have our venue booked and have a definite date.
I also have excel sheets and pictures picked for inspiration
Woops I forgot to add we've been engaged since 11/9/08 so we have had some time to plan, but because of school and how far out it was from 2011 we just started doing more serious planning.
Another June 25th bee here!!!
@elisterine I'm also getting married in Chicago! Did you go to NU by any chance? I went there for undergrad and have walked past the women's club a million times. I've never been on the inside but it's really pretty from the outside.
So far I have my venue booked and the ceremony is outdoors so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for no rain! June can be really rainy in Chicago so it's not too early to start.
Hi everyone! I'm so glad to see this thread and all of your posts! We got engaged on October 3, 2009- and we're getting married June 3, 2011. We've already booked our venue, booked the Church, have a DJ, and a florist. Other than that I've been toying with doing my own save the dates and invitations.
Is anyone having a difficult time making the big decisions about color scheme because it is so early on?
I would love to have a good handle on just about everything by this June, so I'm not completely stressed for the entire year before the wedding.
We have tons of spreadsheets also and the guestlist although it keeps getting people added to it lol.
edit: our colors our center of a daisy yellow and grass green.
@Betz I'm having a real hard time picking out colors which is delaying the bridesmaid dresses. We want an outdoor wedding and have been looking at a ton of venues and just stumbled onto this one www.skylodgerental.com. What do you girls think? For colors I'd like earthtones I think, but I'm not sure about if it's too dark for summer or not...
June 11th bride to be here.
I've been engaged a year, but we're slowly moving. I keep changing my mind about reception location, but we did just book the church and photographer. Since the FI is a graphic designer he's been working on our invites and website. So we've got a start, but we still have a lot to do. Looking forward to everybit though!
P.S. Tons of 6/11/11 brides....must be a lucky date!
@redhead87 It's really hard for me to make a definite decision about colors so early on. Have you started looking for your own dress yet? I was thinking that maybe if I choose my dress it will be easier to pick out bridesmaid dresses, what do you think?
Also the skylodge rental looks like a beautiful venue!! I think earthtones would look really nice, you could just add one bolder or brighter color so that it won't be so dark. If you chose to have it there, you will already have vibrant greens to work with =) I hope that helps.
I haven't booked any vendors officially yet, have any of you had any experiences where the vendor said it was too early to book? I had gotten turned down at a bridal gown store because they only sell to brides starting at a certain date depending on your wedding date....too bad for them I found a stunning 4500 dollar dress for 1600 somewhere else which is better than the paloma blanca plainer one I was planning on trying on there!
Another 6-11-11 bride here!
We got engaged July 2009, and we were going to get married May 2010 but with school and life and things going on, we decided to wait a year. We pushed it back a month because May isn't working with school schedules. I picked the 11th because I am weird for numbers, and I think of the potential June 2011 dates, 6-11-11 flows the best! Yeah, I'm strange. My birthday is 9-18, and it ruined dates for me. Our wedding WOULD be 9-10-11 if not for the school issues. (I'll be in graduate school; he'll be a high school teacher. His sisters, who are two of my bridesmaids, are either still in high school or an elementary teacher. We pretty much have to get married in the summer!)
Anyway, the only thing we have done is our ceremony venue. We're getting married outside at his grandparent's farm because it has an amazing view! Previously, we thought we'd have our reception there as well, but the more I think about the little things like utensils even, the more I think I'd rather just get a venue so I don't have to stress! I already have a dress, but I stopped liking it almost immediately after I bought it, and I hope to drop 30lbs by then, so I plan to buy something else.
Betz -- When I thought about my color scheme, I think about the bridesmaid's dresses. I think I would like my bridesmaids to wear gold, but I'm open to brown if it's easier/more flattering for them. I want peachy/pinky/yellowy earthy colors for the flowers and decor. I think that all goes together well and is very simple and won't look too dated when I look back. I found it easiest to pick an idea for dresses first. I knew I wanted pink incorporated somehow without it being overwhelming, and since we'll be getting married outside in the spring, I wanted a very light feeling. I describe my color vision as like peach/salmon/butter yellow/sage... my friends say my wedding sounds delicious haha. Hope that helps as a starting point! You could look at dresses and see if anything jumps out at you!
Edited in a picture of our ceremony "venue" -- I took this in September when my fiance and I were out riding. This will be the view when we get married, sans horse, though! Also, we'll be over a little more to the right where the view is open and less of the treetops. Sorry it's not the best picture!
I'm totally with you on the #'s thing that's one of the main reasons I love our date!
@Amaryllis your venue is beautiful! I would love to find a venue like that. How lucky your grandparents own it. I'm sure your dress is lovely, I have cold feet about mine all of the time, thankfully no bad feelings towards it. Do you have a pic of it you can post? ha I also want to lose like 30lbs for the wedding. My fiance is skinny and can work out for 3 weeks and be ripped. How lucky for him.
@Betzy I have a dress picked out. A kinda hippy dress, A-line, chiffon, ivory, strapless with a rouched top. I have a couple of bridesmaid dresses picked.
http://www.jlmcouture.com/assets/Occasions/bm/large/5815.jpg is my favorite so far. It is very similar to my dress and is made with the same material.
I also like this one, maybe as an alternative for the busty bridesmaids.
http://www.jlmcouture.com/Jim-Hjelm-Occasions/Bridesmaid/Additional/Style-5859
@Swedish I can't believe you got turned down from a bridal store for planning too far ahead! How ridiculous.
Redhead, thank you!
My dress is Maggie Sottero Milana. The thing is that I was torn between that and a much more classic style, but my mom did the cry thing and the consultant started rushing and I caved. I regretted it almost immediately. Immediately! It's my own fault in the end, but I just can't get excited for it. I can't even picture myself in it on the day. It just doesn't fit my style. It is a beautiful dress in and of itself, but I think I ignored the part where it just isn't right for me. Also, the more I look at it, the more I hate hate hate that tulle at the bottom! Moreover, moving the wedding back is kind of a clean slate for us, wedding wise. The stress of trying to do everything got us really bickering about anything wedding related, and pretty much everything associated with that seems almost tainted to me. When it comes in (around April), I will promptly be listing it in the classifieds!

The other contender was Casablanca 1858, though I would take the bow off the waist and get the neckline modified to sweetheart. ( http://www.casablancabridal.com/collections/view/4/74 ) I still like that one, though I am also currently loving the slim lace gowns with illusion lace straps. I could really see myself in a dress with straps. But this is all just conjecturing until I lose the weight!
The BM dresses you have picked out are lovely. Two of my girls are extremely busty, and FI's mom is extremely picky about how covered they'll be, as one is his 16 year old (17 at the wedding) sister!
Oh boy have I been behind.
@EVERYONE: our colors are chocolate brown and like a pool/spa blue. I finally convinced my FH to agree to wearing brown tuxes. YAY!!
I also love the flow and sounds on June 11, 2011. He'll never be able to forget it! Haha. Or so we all hope.
I went to try on dresses over Christmas break, and found a few that I love. I was convinced I was going to get a Maggie dress...but I can't find a store that carries the one I want.
How do your FH's feel about the planning now with so much time left? My FH complains and says we have tons of time...not to really worry about it all now. BUT, we all know that he isn't really going to take part in the planning too much, so I need to do it now, little-by-little, otherwise I might have 47 panic attacks a day.
rmw -- I love chocolate brown and aqua together! That is going to look great. I'm glad your FH agreed to it.
We're sort of not "planning" right now. Obviously I am still getting ideas like here, but we're not looking into vendors or doing anything concrete for a few months yet, so he doesn't really care. Also, he similarly agreed that as long as there is food, he doesn't really care what it looks like!
@ Amaryllis: I didn't really give him a choice. I mean, that sort of sounds rude. But I said I wanted those colors, before we were even engaged. I said that to his mom and sister, just in conversation, it came up somehow. And then after we were engaged, and we started looking at some things, it just stayed the same. Idk. And once we were somewhere, and he was like, "Those are my wedding colors", and he was sort of giddy about it. It was very cool. So I'm glad he's not super against it. OOOH, AND I got him to agree to wear brown tuxes!! Ahhh... :D
@rmw my FI is the same way with time. I feel like I'm always planning and getting ideas. MY FI wants us to get married 2 hours from our house and I told him I don't have a problem with it, but I'll be finishing up grad school (hopefully) and he may have to go there himself to finalize plans etc. And he said he is okay with that but I don't know if he really fully understands the stress we'll have on us when it gets closer to our date. My bridesmaids are the same way actually..."oh the wedding is soooo far away!" ha it's a year and five months away! Things need t be booked in advance.
I also looove chocolate brown and aqua, really chocolate brown and any color. My friend decorated her nursery with brown and lilac for a girl and I told FI if we have a baby I want brown and lilac for a girl and brown and mint green for a boy and he was like "those colors don't go together!" haha
About your FI and tuxes...I am trying to give mine the illusion of freedom...haha which sounds horrible, I want him to be comfortable, but I want him to look good and not dated. I always show him the tuxedo junction stuff we get in the mail and he told me he wants to wear a tux that is black with a bow tie and he want tails on the tux. So I guess we'll see. Maybe I should just let him wear whatever?
@amaryllis both dresses are lovely. They are definitely two separate dresses though. Maybe you can sell the first dress and buy another one? I hear you on losing weight, I just did 80 crunches before starting a yoga video and I can totally feel it ha by the end I was breathing a little heavier than when I started
I figure if I start working out now maybe I can lose some substantial weight by the time the wedding rolls around. I would love to drop like 15lbs and at least tone up my belly and my arms a bit more.
@redhead87: First of all, love your name (I'm a redhead, born in 87). I am not forcing my FI to wear brown, but we were all trying to tell him that black and brown look kinda weird together, and we didn't know how we would be able to incorporate the brown with the black if they had black tuxes. I really do want him opinion on things, and I do want him to be comfortable.
rmw -- Which Maggie are you looking for?
redhead -- The styles are my biggest thing. I think the dress I bought is gorgeous; I have actually seen a few threads about it here on WB. It's just not "me" and I don't think it'll fit our outdoor ceremony. I really like the shape of that Casablanca, abd I've come to learn that organza is probably my favorite material. I also enjoy the lace sheaths with illusion straps. Who knows what'll be out by then, though! When do the fall collections come out? I have a few dresses now that I like, but I have sort of invented a dress in my mind that I haven't seen anywhere (organza, a-line, sash which I could add, sweetheart top, possible ruching), so I'd love the wait and see what else is around later this year since we do have so much time to dress shop. I saw that you have your dress picked out already; do you have pics?
@Amaryllis: I was looking for the Maggie Charley. But couldn't find a store around me that actually carries it. Now I might be looking at something else...
Ok, I'm having a little trouble keeping up with everyone!! I'm kinda new and still trying to keep up the pace with all the busy bees!!
Here goes:
@amaryllis-- thanks for the advice about the color scheme and bridesmaid dresses, I've already begun looking and picking out a couple of styles that I like and it has helped me to narrow down the colors I would choose. Also, 30 POUNDS!!! You do NOT need to lose 30 pounds, I could understand wanting to tone up for the wedding but based on your pics I don't think you need to lose weight!
@redhead-- I LOVE the bridesmaid dresses that you have picked out. I think the Jim Hjelm collections are gorgeous!! Great picks!
@rmw-- Definitely agree about the 47 panic attacks!! hahahhah I'm also doing my planning little by little. My FH doesn't really mind planning early, I'm basically the one doing the leg work anyways. I think he knows its going to keep my sanity in tact! LOL
I'm going dress shopping tomorrow, does anyone who has already purchased their gown worry that they bought it too soon or are you just in love with your dress and are sure of your decision?? I don't want to have buyer's remorse next year when the new dresses come out... any advice??
rmw -- I will keep an eye out for similar styles from other carriers. Hopefully you can find something equally or moreso awesome near you!
Betz -- Thanks. It's as much about getting healthy as losing weight. I am 145ish lbs on a 5'3"ish frame (ok, like 5'2.5"). I am out of shape completely. Both my parents have/had serious heart disease. I would be willing to lose fewer lbs as long as more of it is muscle than fat, which is not the case right now! Have fun dress shopping tomorrow! Is it your first time? I would definitely advise against purchasing on your first trip, especially since we are so far out. I know that some people just know it's the one on the first time, but if you have any fear about buyer's remorse, just wait! Most shops are really good about keeping track of the dresses you like. Also, if you are waiting and it gets discontinued, they'll let you know and all, so really, you have nothing to lose by waiting.
rmw -- Have you checked out Blue by Enzoani? I think their Daisy style from the 2009 collection could be kind of close, but you'd have to get straps put on.
June 19th here. Have the church, hall, my gown (only because I actually WON it), photographer
Next steps are video, dj and rabbi (interfaith), and then we'll take it easy until spring
I am getting married June 4, 2011.
We have booked the reception site, will book the ceremony site in the next week or so.
We have met with 2 photographers but have yet to make a decision and I am going dress shopping tomorrow! (very excited to try on some Maggie Sottero dresses!)
I do feel like the wedding is sooooooo far away, but at the same time i am enjoying the leisurely planning and thinking about all the DIY projects I will have time to do over the summer and get out the way in plenty of time before the big day!
Lordy I need to check this more frequently. haha sorry gals!
Betz-did you find a dress? Find any styles/designers that fit your personality/style/body?
I was/am in love with my dress from the moment I tried it in. It was just so light weight and flowy and made me feel wonderful. Ugh it also helped it was on sale and I was afraid when it got closer to the date it would still be available. So far I have been apprehensive about looking at other dresses and so far have only found one I loved more than mine but it was waaay out of my price range.
Thanks for checking the bridesmaid dresses out. I haven't found out how much they cost yet, I'm hoping they're on the affordable side...
amary-I don't have a real good picture of my dress. I tried it on christmas and my friend took pictures of it so I'm trying to get him to send me pictres of it. My mom insisted on storing it at their house because she didn't want me to show everyone. haha otherwise I'd pop it on and take a picture of it now. Next time I'm at my parents I'll try it on and send you some pictures of it. I have pics from me trying the dress on but it's white, not ivory and totally doesn't do the dress justice. I have a horrible time posting pictures on here so I'll probably email/message them to you/whoever else wants to see.
rmw-haha I'm glad there's a fellow redhead here! haha we're a dying breed you know. My FI have 2 orange cats(one who is in my avatar ha Focker<-yes you read right his name is Focker...) and a dog with red hair. haha my FI has salt and pepper hair (started going gray when he was 16) so he's the odd one out.
Maybe boys are kinda color blind? haha so they think colors that don't go together really do. My FI would say "OOH everything goes with black. Including brown."
Bright-wow you won your dress? What designer? What does it look like? How lucky of you! Are you Jewish or is your FI? I was raised kinda non-religiously but my mom is Jewish, dad Catholic so we celebrated all holidays. We're incorporating certain Jewish traditions in our wedding ceremony. haha my Bub already said she wants to make chopped liver for the reception.
Future-what DYI projects are you planning? I'm going to try to grow flowers for centerpieces I think. ha but that's all I have planned. I'm always looking for inspiration.
I'm going to try to post some wedding dress pics. haha but I will be surprised if it works as I have had several failed attempts. And if they do work sorry for how I look haha I didn't know my sister was taking the pictures so I'm not smiling/looking at the camera.
Amar if this doesn't work and you still want to see message me your email address and I can email them to you.
Yet another June 11, 2011 Bride here! I got engaged in November. I've only just begun my planning these last couple of weeks. We have been looking into venues and invitations and such. The dress shopping hasn't begun yet! There is still tons to be done. Nothing is set, or even close to being set in stone yet. I just want to get it planned and just wait!
stb-welcome! Congrats on the engagement and the 6/11/11 date. I hear ya on the wanting to plan now and wait later, I think that's the goal of most of us June 2011 brides.
