Hi bees!  We're at a fun part of planning--the honeymoon!  We'd like to keep things around $6000 total (including airfare, hotel & food).  We're planning on 10 days/9 nights, and the most important factor is a beautiful beach.  We're based on the east coast, so I'm thinking somewhere in the Caribbean might work for us.  We want to veg out on the beach/at the pool for 10 days.

    -Quiet, secluded (no casinos/nightclubs)

    -Preferably no kids

-I would love to have a private plunge pool, but I realize that might be out of our price range.

I'd love to hear your suggestions of locations & resorts!!

If you want something quiet and relaxing, I would suggest one of the resorts on the island if St. Lucia. It is a beautiful island with a lot to offer. Check out Ti Kaye or Jalousie Plantation. If you want to go the all inclusive route, Sandals Halcyon is supposed to be the quietest and most relaxing of all the Sandals resorts.

@Bichon Frise:  Thank you so much for the suggestions.   Ti Kaye and Jalousie Plantation both look gorgeous!  Have you been to either of them?

I was just thinking for that budget, St. Lucia would be great! I think some of the Sandals resorts offer pools with some of their rooms.

ETA: I recommend chatting with a travel agent - their services should be free and they can help you find exactly what you're looking for :)

@hisgoosiegirl:  I've never used a travel agent before.  Is it worthwhile?  I'm used to obsessively researching on my own, but I suppose it would be nice for someone else to do that.  :)

We're in the same boat, June wedding in Boston and we want a beach honeymoon.  We booked Bucuti in Aruba.  The flights are affordable.  It's adults only and its right on Eagle beach.  We're going for 8 days and planning to spend between $3,000 and $4,000 (just because it's expensive to eat in Aruba).  We've also planned a sunset cruise, snorkeling, horseback riding, jeep rental, etc.  You could definitely do 10 days for under $6,000.  You could even upgrade to a Tara Suite.  I wanted a plunge pool too but I heard the pool/hot tub are barely used there so you'd most likely be alone.  Check it out :)

P.S. it's also the beginning of huricane season so we chose Aruba because it's one of the ABC islands.. Probably won't be an issue but I'm paranoid.

@PeachyBee:  I too am an obsessive researcher!

definitely research and get some ideas, but they are great if you haven't travelled much. DH and I used one and she helped us pick the best room for what we wanted. We went in looking at Sandals in St. Lucia, and ended up going to a Couples Resort in Jamaica. We chose which Couples one we wanted to go to, but she hit the nail on the head as far as getting more for our budget and getting the intimate, tropical, romantic feel we were after.

She had even been to our resort  - so that was nice too. They give you little tips and help find cheaper flights/pick the best days to fly in/out.

    I highly recommend it!

@Bichon Frise:  I haven't been to either of those, but I read a lot of reviews for them. I'm honeymooning in St. Lucia myself, so I'm very excited about going there! I'll be staying at Sandals La Toc for 5 days and Ladera for 4 days. Ladera is an awesome resort but it's up in the mountain, so I didn't suggest it since you said you wanted to stay by the beach.

@PeachyBee:  By the way, I just noticed you're getting married a day before me. We'll probably be honeymooning at the same time!

If you're willing to stay Stateside, you could go to the Keys.  Your money will go so far in the Keys, and June is beautiful down there.  It will probably rain for about an hour in the afternoon about half the days, maybe (kind of depends on the year; it could be totally dry).

Loving all the feedback!  Keep it coming.  :)

The Ti Kaye website makes it sound like the beach may be a little rocky.  Does anyone know if that's the case?  FI & I went to Nice in France a few years ago, and the rocky beaches were gorgeous but painful!

xnlb41084Bucuti looks so nice!  What is the difference between the regular rooms and the Tara section?

@PeachyBee:  You can look at Ti Kaye on Tripadvisor for reviews and photos of the beach. The sand looks gray in color, but I don't think it's rocky.

Quick update - I made an appointment to meet with a travel agent tomorrow during my lunch break. I'm excited to see what they recommend. Thanks to those of you who suggested that!

@PeachyBee:  The tara suites are right on the water and have a much nicer view.  They are also a little bigger.  For regular rooms, the deluxe rooms have an ocean view and the superior rooms do not.

If you are interested in stateside, the Panhandle of FL (Pensacola-Destin) has amazing beaches. A much more relaxed atmoshpere than other places in FL. Cheaper than the Caribbean but with white sand beaches and crystal clear blue water.

We are going to the Cayman Islands for 8 days. Spending about $3600 with flight and Hotel from West Coast. Our hotel every room is beach front.  Good Luck with your search.
