Hi all – I’m not much to care about decor/details (I just want people to eat, drink and be merry), but my mom has convinced me I should probably pick a color, at least.
I imagine the color will determine:
- Mom, FMIL and MOH dress color (I’m not doing BMs – too much work!)
- Napkins (ivory or whatever-is-free tablecloths)
- Centerpiece “theme” (flowers, maybe.. maybe not)
- My bouquet
Um, that’s all I can think of in the way of things that will need colors. I’m so not good at these things.
Anyway – I’ve always loved crimson and me, my mom, FMIL and MOH all have coloring that will do well with that (pale skin, dark hair) but my friend recently said for a public park/oceanfront wedding, red is too “wintery” and dark.
Blue or green might work with all the grass/ocean/sky that will be going on.
I’m so clueless I feel like a 1st grader! Suggestions anyone? 🙂

Mmmm what about a teal? Or even a fuschia of some sort? If you love crimson, go for it. But with a beachfront wedding, you have a great opportunity to go very summery and tropical! 🙂

I think that if you love crimson, go for it! You can always lighten it up with some accent colors that are lighter in the flowers/decorations (light blue, light green, pink, yellow).

Personally I think crimson could be kind of heavy for a June beach wedding, but maybe you could mix it with other shades of red/pink. If you like crimson, maybe you would like a lighter version of red – like watermelon or coral? I have similar coloring, and those colors also look good… here are a few different directions you could go:
Lighter/brighter shades of red/coral/pink:
The last one has deeper colors (ignore the India theme :)), but I like it with the yellow/orange mixed in.

Thanks guys! Yeah pink is more appropriate but a bit too girly for me, I think. I wonder if we picked green, what an accent color is the MOH/mom/FMIL could pick for dresses instead? I don’t know, do people buy dresses in green?? 🙂 Hehe I feel like that would be hard if someone told me I had to get something green.. not sure.

it’s your wedding. who cares if crimson is a dark and it’s a beach wedding? do what you love!
i like the idea of crimson because it will get you away from ending up with a beach-themed wedding, which i personally don’t love.

@kitzy: Hehe thanks 🙂 Yeah our venue is traditional-looking on the inside (you can see the ocean from the wall of windows, which is what we loved) so it could go either way.

@MissBoston: There are so many shades of green that you can pretty much find something that works for anyone… and green looks lovely with so many other colors! A few more inspiration boards for ideas (I like the first & last ones – ocean colors – and the ladies could wear different shades of green/aqua/blue):

I totally just found this and I thought of this thread and thought I’d add it, it has the reds in it.

If you love crimson, go with that. It will look better simply because you will be more excited about it and pick better things along the way.
It won’t look wintery if you pick summer fabrics.

i know you said you like the crimson color, but i think navy and yellow are awesome beach colors..IMO. I know if I were getting married by the water, I’d have chosen those colors. but i also agree with theeekingeek that tangerine and aqua look awesome too. have fun 🙂
