It really depends on the girl at that age. I have two friends with daughters that age. One is tall, pleasantly plump, beautiful and looks more like 15 than 11. She has started shopping int he Juniors section to find stuff that is long enough. The other is still short and petite and shops in the girls section because Juniors sizes are too big.
Are the BM dresses appropriate for the girls? Can you get the same dress in a size 0 or 1 and alter it for the girls? JCrew doesn't carry Junior Bridesmaid stuff? I thought they did.
They weren't the actual bridesmaids dresses from JCrew. They were just regular summer dresses on clearance and there were only sizes 8-12 still available, which worked out perfectly for my BMs, but not so much for FI's sisters.
When is the wedding? That's the other hard part with kids is that they grow and you never know when they are going to do it!! :) If you buy the dresses this summer but the wedding is next summer you may be wasting your money.
How popular is the style for your BM's? If it is a popular style and color you'll probably be able to find the girls something similar in their size. Find out where they shop and start checking those stores and websites out. OR you might be able find a seamstress who can recreate the dress in the junior size and make it more appropriate if needed as far as strap size or cleavage coverage. Check out the pattern books at your fabric store. ALL of your popular clothing styles are available for people who sew. If the dresses are summer sun dresses, you can probably find a pattern that will complement your BM dresses. If the fabric store doesn't have a coordinating fabric in stock, work with the manager. She may be able to order something for you.

Well, I got a huge check off my list last night and ordered my bridesmaids dress! Very exciting, but I am now left with the problem of what to pick for FI's two younger sisters (ages 11 and 10). Here's my question: Are 10 and 11 year olds considered to be in the juniors department or the girls department? The stuff I've looked at for juniors seems very...adult? looking. I know some bridal salons will carry "junior bridesmaids" dresses but my bridesmaids dresses are very simple cotton dresses from JCrew and I think anything from a bridal salon will just look way to dressy.
Any ideas/suggestions?
