Anyone have any luck with this before?
I’m really flustered because I received this summons today and it needs to be returned within 5 days. Since I am leaving the country tomorrow I need to mail it today. Since it’s the weekend there is no one available at the court house to talk to.
I’m required to report on 12/16 and I’m supposed to be available all week (or longer if I get picked for a trial that goes longer), however, I am supposed to be out of state during part of that week for a wedding and my accomodations have already been booked.
I’m also worried about Christmas as we don’t live in the same state as our family and we were going to spend the entire week with them.
Anyways, I wrote a letter to mail in asking for a change of date. Do I also mail in the form they sent even though that form means I am agreeing to it? I’m just so confused right now (and upset about the the chance of missing this wedding and Christmas with the family).
FWIW I’m in Summit County in OH if anyone has any particular experience with that county.

@MrsBeck: Oh no, bad timing! I didn’t know you could request to change, but it maybe different in the states. Hope it works out for you.

@MrsBeck: A similar thing happened to me in the summer. I had a trip planned and got a summons. They asked me to send them a copy of my flight schedule, as proof that I’d already purchased airline tickets for those dates.
I would suggest you return the summons with a copy of your hotel reservations or whatever. Send it by email too if they included an email address. I suspect that if the date is 12/16 there’s a good chance it will be postponed anyway. But it would be better if you can be excused. Good luck!

@Cyanfire: shoot I already stuck the summons in the mail (with a request letter for a change of date). Wish I had thought about that before. They didn’t provide an email and I couldn’t find one anywhere. Since I’ll be out of the country starting tomorrow I also can’t call them because of the astronomical calling fees with my phone company :/ thanks for your advice!
