Wow, I'd be really annoyed too. I've never been called for jury duty *knock on wood.* FI was called for it awhile ago... he's in sales, so the days he missed work cost him money. On top of that, he didn't even get picked, after being there for 2-3 days. Yuck.

So a few weeks back my grandma tells me I have a jury summons at her house (I lived with her for about a year after I finished college, but I moved out at the beginning of 2005, notified the DMV, updated my voter registration, etc...). I read the summons, fill out all the information for an excuse due to not residing in the county (and besides... I did jury service in LA County less than a year ago! See, I'm not just trying to get out of doing my civic duty; I just did it already somewhere that wasn't 120 miles away!). I didn't see anything about documentation required.
So today, my grandma calls me and there is a postcard about how my excuse was not accepted because I didn't provide adequate documentation and I have to show up on the 22nd... at a courthouse three hours away!!! I called, and they wanted a copy of my drivers license or my voter registration card.
Folks, I moved in 2005 and I vote permanent absentee. I don't have my voter registration card! And my license? It wasn't up for renewal until the end of this year; why would I pay good money for a new one, when the DMV tells me I can just keep an extra piece of paper in my wallet with my current address?
Thank GOD for some reason when I was cleaning up last week I came across my proof of jury service from last May--and that I magically didn't throw it away!--that I could fax in while that got taken care of! But who should expect to have to prove they don't live in a place where they haven't lived in five years??? Ugh.
Any annoying jury summons stories? :)
