please tell me where you got this dress! i loveee! i want to wear something like this for my RD
but no i did not buy an emergency dress :) im wearing a satin dress (strapless) but there are tons of bees with reception dresses :)
I got it at JCPenny, actually. Its Liz Claiborne and I can't find it on the website right now, so maybe its an older one? My store had quite a few of them so I'm not sure what the story is. It was only $40!!
@thennic: oh no! I was just in the states on saturday but I didn't end up going to JCPenny :(
I guess I'll have to take another trip! Hopefully they will have it! Thanks :)
I have two dresses but they are both wedding dresses, one is lace and silk, super formal with a long train. I got another that is super fun one strap for the reception.
@thanlon_88 No problem! Good luck in finding it!
@orchid84 How fun to have two dresses with completely different styles!
Anyone else have experience wearing thick satin?
I bought that dress for my rehearsal dinner and I also wore it on my honeymoon! I love it on you! Great backup dress choice.
I was 8 1/2 months pregnant at my wedding. I changed as early as I could and my dress was organza. I found mine at TJ Maxx for $10!
@taylor.ashleys Thanks! I was thinking about wearing it for my rehearsal or a shower too. :) That necklace that I'm wearing can actually double as a belt (its the right size anways) but I've yet to get a girls opinion on how it looks. Did you wear the dress as is?
I obviously cannot speak with certaintly about every style of dress or every fabric, but what I found in trying on gowns is that anything made of polyester was outrageously hot and made me sweat. The silk gowns, made of natural fibers, did not. (Since satin is actually a finish and not a fabric, I don't know whether your gown is polyester or silk.)
@Storm0075 Nice deal!!
@Brielle I actually had no idea that that was the case. Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to look into it. Either way, I have a backup now! :)
I got married in July in South GA - I felt like I had to buy a smaller dress. I did not want to go around all afternoon in a ball gown. This is the dress I wore:
OP - I love your dress! I work at JCP and I see it everyday haha. It's too cute! So is yours @misskoala - I adore the feathers. Was your "actual" wedding gown a similar style?
I would really like one but it would also make me sad to change out of my real dress. I'm torn.
I changed into a different dress during the second half of my reception. I think the emergency dress looks great.
Planning to get a dress for reception as well ;-) It's a reasonable thought!
That's why I chose to buy such an inexpensive one that I could wear again. And also why I'm calling my dress an "emergency" dress and not a reception dress because I don't know if I'll have/want to change out of my "real" dress :)
@thennic: Thats my thought, too. I'm looking for a reception dress, but I may not use it. I just know that standing in my tafetta dress makes me warm, and I've only tried it on in the winter, so having a reception dress on standby makes sense.
@thennic: What an adorable dress! It would make for a great one for a cruise.
@juliafoxtrot: No - I had a ballgown. I have pictures around the site somewhere.

I just bought this as an "emergency" dress. I'm so nervous my satin dress is going to get too hot to dance later on in the night. Anyone have experience with satin? I'm kind of one of those people that shuts down if I get overheated so I figured for peace of mind, I need an extra (inexpensive!! like under $50, inexpensive) dress as a backup so I can keep dancing without passing out. Its nothing like my real dress and not very typical but I still like it. Oh, my wedding is pretty casual, btw. Am I the only crazy one that's done this?
