My boyfriend and I recently went and put an engagement ring in layaway. He wanted me to be with him when he got it so he would know for sure that I loved it. I picked out a princess cut solitare. I believe it was either 1/5 carat or 1/4 carat. I can’t remember exactly? It is a Facets of Fire diamond from Walmart. I know that the meaning of the ring is really what it’s all about and I would marry my boyfriend tomorrow if I could but I just want another woman’s opinion on the ring. Is it quality or not? I wear a size 8 ring and I just don’t want it to look like my finger overpowers my ring. LOL I think I’m more afraid that my dad won’t think it’s good enough for his “little girl.” I guess I’m just looking for some reassurance on my choice. Any little comment would be greatly appreciated! And sorry if my post is kinda scattered around with info… I’m new to posting. =)

Your ring will look gorgeous – no worries! I’ve looked at the rings at Walmart and they’re actually really good quality, very similar if not identical to rings I saw at more higher-end stores.
As for your finger overpowering your ring, I don’t think it will! Lots of bees on here have similar ring size to diamond size ratio and they all look lovely.
Your dad will certainly think it’s good enough for you!

I just looked it up and I think that its a beautiful ring! Very fiery from the look of it! What matters is that you love it! The size of your ring has nothing to do with how “good enough” it is for someone! If you think that your finger will overpower your ring and you dont want to break budget, then maybe you can look into an alternative stone rather than a diamond. Im looking into Moissanite and aquamarine for my engagement ring! Just make sure you love it!

Are you and your boyfriend happy with it? That’s all that matters. People will have their opinions…my grandpa was just teasing me about “he didn’t put a ring on it, he put a ROCK on it.” I also get a little flack occasionally about having a sapphire instead of a diamond. But at the end of the day, my Fiance is thrilled with what he got, and that he could afford it…and I love it, too! Good luck!

Thank you so much guys! All of you definately told me what I needed to hear! I’ve been reading some of the other threads and I have absolutely fallen in love with the boards on this site. It’s so personal and definately a confidence boost! I love to see that there are many different “perfect” engagement rings for each individual person on here and all are extremely happy with them! I still had the cookie cutter idea of the engagement ring in my head… it’s definately out the window now! LOL

As long as your SO and you are happy with the choice then don’t worry what anyone else thinks about it being ‘good enough’ for you. Bigger carat size does not equal more love.

I heard that the facets of fire are actually pretty good quality. Congrats on being able to pick it out! I have around a .5 carat and a size 9 finger. My ring looks great on my hand! I think it will be beautiful and like everyone has said its the love behind it that matters.

Have you read the reviews on WalMarts website? The ladies who own these rings seem to be very happy with them!

You’re the only one whos opinion matters -someone is always going to have a better, bigger diamond -doesn’t matter how big you go. Plus, its no ones business where you got it or how much you paid for it -and for whatever reason perfect strangers will ask. Sheesh.
Should your dad say anything about it I suggest you do the following -look at him really sad (we’re talking puppy dog eyes) and say “really daddy, but I thought it was just perfect” -that’ll clam him up. He doesn’t want to hurt his little girl 🙂
Congrats on your engagement!

It”s kinda disappointing that people have a preconcieved notion of what an engagement ring should be. It’s really about you and your partner’s tastes. There’s no reason why you should need an 8K ring if the $500 one has everything you could possibly want in a price range that’s comfortable for you. I just had a conversation with my guy about what he was expecting to spend. He thought 4K just for the stone would be pretty standard and expected. But I recently found the perfect ring for me and the whole thing, stone, setting, and everything is only 3K. I told him the same thing. Why get an 8K ring because it’s expected if the 1K has everything you’ve ever wanted.
I think you’ve found a beautiful ring. It’s simple, classic, timeless and super sparkly. 🙂 Don’t worry about your finger overpowering it. I think it’ll be beautifully subtle. Congrats!!!! 🙂

@vicozzie: I went back and read the reviews. I don’t know why I didn’t think to do that before! LOL I always read reviews about things I’m buying or have already bought. Some of the women have also posted pictures with their reviews and it has definately let me know that the ring is going to be just perfect! Thanks so much for mentioning the reviews!!

I have the same ring, size 8 finger, and the 1/5 carat. If I had pictures I would show you but I sadly havnt taken any. However I love it. Its just as shiny as the other ones. You shouldnt have to shell out a ton of money for an engagement ring if you cant afford it. I love it the way it is.
However, I noticed that next to another white gold setting (my wedding gaurd) it does look a little (but not too noticably so) duller.
