I'm kind of curious how bees chose their wedding colors?
I was SO indecisive, mostly because I am such a fan of color. It's not that I (we) settled, but our colors kind of got determined by the invitations and FH saying "Just pick colors!!!!". We're doing orange and fuchsia with hints of lime/spring green. Not terribly original, but I think the colors will look great at the venue and give a fun-vibe.
I think it's always good to consider your venue when picking your colors. We wanted to keep things simple [like, black and white] but it was outside so we didn't want it to seem too formal with just black and white---so we added pops of different shades of green. I think it tuned out great. Definitely wasn't because green is my favorite color or anything : )
Ooh when I saw this picture when looking for aqua kitchen colour inspiration, I fell in love with it

I've always wanted red for my wedding but thought it would be too heavy for June so when I saw it teamed with aqua I knew it was perfect. I explored different colour ideas but came back to this as it also suits my venue.
I feel like our color choice may have been a bit on the dorky side, but that's okay. :-) We picked our favorite colors, which for awhile have been "our colors." Like, we'd get excited if we saw a burgundy/turquoise thing together. Yeah...:-)
So, it seemed like it was just logical to use those as the wedding colors. Plus we're having a fall wedding and the burgundy fits nicely with the fall colors. :-)
I agree with PP- Since my venue has a lot of rich wood, and gold curtain drapery, etc...I wanted to lighten up the palatte with more neutral colors- so I picked ivory, champagne, blush pink and green.
I don't know why, but I've just always wanted blush pink tones (BMs are going to wear blush pink)...I just always thought it was so romantic. Also, I'm mixing in some spring green colors more than likely--just because I'm having a spring wedding and I think it would look springy and colorful :)
we chose blue and green, we're having a may wedding so the color scheme fit with spring and blue is my favorite color while green is my FH favorite color.
Green was a given because I love green.
Blue was added after we found the bridesmaids dresses.

We really struggled in choosing colors, mainly because we had a ton of friends that were married last year and we didn't want to "copy" any of theirs. When it came down to it, we really choose the colors that we wanted and didn't worry about anyone else....purple shades and gray it is!
We compromised on our colors. I offered blue, gold and white (St. Louis Rams) and he offered silver and black (Oakland Raiders). Since neither of us wanted the other teams colors, we chose teal, black, white and silver (San Jose Sharks). We both LOVE the Sharks! Its probably a good thing we picked our colors before the Giants won the World Series!
I saw a wedding blog where the girl used yellow and blue and it was perfect...I was hooked.
We wanted to pick some of our favorite colors, we first were going to pick red/black/white or purple/black/white, but decided that it wouldn't work for a spring time garden wedding.
We eventually decided light blue and white, but then figured out it would look good if we did assorted blues and white.
I knew blue was going to be the color, its my husband favorite. (we are having a VR) and our colors will still be blue. Dark Blue, light blue, yellow and ivory...
the first time around i was rather blase about the whole wedding thing, not much but blue, blahhh this time though there will be great variety, here is a photo of all the diy flowers i have done to give you a better idea... the little dark flower in the front is made out of a magazine pages... these will go on the trees of my venue to add something, but not take away from natural surroundings of it... :)

I picked a lighter shade of blue as our "main" colour because it's my FI's favourite. Then I based the rest of the scheme off that: yellow and lime green seemed to go well with the blue and seemed very summery.

I had some ideas in mind, but my venue + timeframe/season + eliminating colors we DIDNT want + keeping it simple = my colors. (Grey, orange, yellow, white)
Apparently I've been relatively obsessed with this scheme for a while - I've used this piece of paper that I bought from Michaels as my inspiration for a bathroom remodel (dark grey walls, light grey towels, and this paper framed and hanging on the wall for color) TWICE... once in FI's old house, and again in our current. I love it.

I looked for DAYS online at all kinds of different colors. I knew I didn't want black and white or ANY sort of pink/peach color scheme at all. I narrowed it down to two different sets of colors that I liked, and then showed them to SO and he helped me choose from there. We decided on a candy apple and aqua color scheme. I've seen it with Tiffany Blue, but I don't like that, so we're going with a darker version.
@DaiquiriS: Uh-oh!!! FH and I are Kings fans! Our teams are tied right now!
I'm not a fan of pink or gold, I'm much more a blue and silver gal. I wanted a peacock theme that incorporated a lot of hues of blues and purples. Mr.ND agreed as he likes blue as well, so I got 6 color swatches, and had him pick 3. Done and done.
When we first started talking about colors, we kept going back and forth about various color combos and just couldn't come to an agreement. Finally we had a photographer (who we did not end up choosing) asked us what our favorite colors were and I said yellow and FI said blue and that is how we chose our colors.

I basically decided on orange, brown, yellow and red, you know, typical fall colours.
I told my Bridesman, who crinkled up his nose and said .... what about silver instead of brown? BRILLIANT. I just ran with it.
So now I have orange, silver and pewter - my updated inspiration board with stuff we're actually using so far in the wedding:
My FI and I are big UNC fans, so it was pretty much required that we use NC blue, and chocolate brown happens to be a common complimentary color. We using the blue in small ways since our wedding is in October. These are our invites.
I struggled forever until I sat down and really thought about it. I am very earthy, love greens and find it to be such an easy colour to work with. Everyone was going with super bright colours, and I knew that wasn't me at all.
I always loved blue. My second was yellow. BAM, there was my wedding colours!
I love my sorority colors sapphire blue and gold, it ended up being an easy choice to make.
Hubby picked red, I added cream and tan for the vintage feel of our venue.
I'm just going with our favorite colours. Black, red (but a super DEEP dark rich blood ruby), and silver instead of white to make things pop and sparkle. And then my man wanted to add purple. But once again a very dark rich elegant purple just a touch here and there, (hopefully I can find both the red and purple with a little shimmer). Everything is going to be very dark and luxurious. Very decadent, and kind of sinfull feeling actually, hahaha. So lots of satin! We both really love fantasy novels and I love glamour and decadence so i think these colours will work well for that. :D And it will be a formal even to everything and everyone should look maaaaahvalous!
My FI only preference was that we did not use pink so i chose my fav colors purple and silver. The colors did have an effect on the venue we chose since there were a few venues we liked that had way too much gold which did not go with my vision and i was not willing to change colors. So if you have your heart set on a place, chose colors that will coordinate.
When we were planning our larger wedding we picked dark purple and ice blue for a wintry theme. When we switched locations and dates we weren't sure what colors to go with. First, I played off of the brooch bouquet I found that I LOVED and went with deep red (to balance out the pink) and pinks. Then we added hints of turquoise/blue to bring in the color on the gazebo.

I've always wanted to do black and white for the pure simplicity of it as well as the classic look. I chose to have an accent color of purple to coordinate with my flowers, which will be similar to these:

I also wanted to chose black dresses for my girls since I have 2 bridesmaid dresses in my colset collecting dust! They get to pick whatever style dress they like so they can wear it again to another event rather than pay for a dress they wear once! HATE MY BRIDESMAID DRESSES! LOL!
@DaiquiriS: I love that you picked hockey colors. FI and I are Rangers fans, and if we used those colors, yuck. It would remind me of the Fourth of July! Plus, he proposed to me at a hockey game, and I didn't want to make it over the top! I am still trying to convince my venue coordinator to let us have the hockey game on in the bar area since it will be opening weekend :p.
Even though I have to pick color stories for my job, I picked our colors haphazardly. Browns/ivories/taupes/greens to match the venue, blue b/c its FIs favorite color, grays because I wanted the girls to wear shades of grays, and then peaches/oranges for a pop of color.
I'm using my favorite color... green! It's kind of sad my FI is green blue color blind but it matches our midsummer nights dream/enchanted forest theme... lol
I was in between several colors. I knew I would need something to match blue Ball jars, since I wanted them as vases, but other than that, I was open.
I threw around the idea of light blue/aqua, peach/coral, royal blue, deep midnight blue.... all sorts of colors that I really liked myself and were inspired by in my own clothing around the time I had to pick colors.
But this is seriously what happened: I refused to pick colors until I found my dress. I picked a dress with a champagne accent, and sort of nixed the darker blues. At the bridal salon, I showed the owner a picture in a magazine of some flowers that I liked- Peach Juliet roses, like the ones Mrs. Cowboy Boot had in her bouquet.
Store owner comes back with a dress sample in the right fabric, and the color (Dreamsicle, a very pale coral) was pretty with my dress and would work with the flowers I was eyeing.
Done deal.
I'm still struggling with my colors. I knew I wanted purple, because I love purple, and I just decided to add things to that. I also like jewel tones as opposed to bight colors.
Originally, I liked something kind of simple, deep purple, black and ivory.
Then I saw inspriation for a room on a decor blog that was a dusty purple, golden yellow and black and I fell in love with it. I'm pretty sure that's what we're going to stick with...
I based it off of my theme. I knew I wanted some type of romantic vintage theme going on. So my colors are eggplant, wine, dusty rose, creamy yellow, and silver. In the end, I don't think I'll really have a color scheme. I just want something soft with a romantic vintage feel.
I have considered sooo many colors for our wedding...finally settled on purple because it makes all the important people happy-FI, FMIL and my Mom. They didn't like my original choice of black and white!
