I mean, I think that’s common, and not a bad thing. Also, if you’re a military family, it’s not uncommon to have a reception or a larger wedding once he returns, if that’s something you’d want.

My SO is currently deployed. When he gets back, we’re going to have a civil ceremony done. Quick, no frills. Our parents are flying out, but it isn’t going to be anything special.

In June, we’re having our “real” wedding back home in California when he can apply for the time off.

Could that be an option for you?

@SeaBabe:  So go for it! Eloping seems like the perfect decision for you.

My cousin and her husband had a civil ceremony and then on their first anniversary had the big wedding ๐Ÿ™‚  It worked out nicely for them and allowed her to live on base with him.

Hyperventilate Same Date!!! YAY

Moving on… I think that you should do what feels right for you! If you are not into planning a BIG thing, then do a small intimate civil ceremony, and maybe have a big reception for family and friends to enjoy at a later date! Good luck ๐Ÿ™‚
