Welcome!!
You'll have a lot of fun while planning, and the bee's will be very helpful :)
Regarding the style of your wedding, I think you can do anything you want! it should reflect you and your FI so if you want a BBQ, go for it!!
And about the wedding party, well my FI has 4 very good friends and he wanted them to be his groomsmen, but my closest friends from college are living far and won't be able to make it to my wedding :(, so we just decided to keep it in the family: my only sis and his only brother. . .
I didn't want to pick 4 girl friends at random just to fill out a number, and my FI understood this and we made the decision together :)
maybe you can try to convince him, but don't force it! i'm sure your girls can understand too!
Good luck on all the planning!
Congrats! Welcome to the bee - I am recently engaged too and I love this site. The Knot is helpful with the timeline and such but the boards on this site are the best as well as the blogs.
Also, don't worry people are going to ask you for a date until you have one but just say you haven't decided yet - neither have we! Don't feel pressure about it. Lakeside wedding sounds beautiful.
The Knot and Weddingwire both have great search tools and you can even modify what kind of a place and the number of guests etc. It is really helpful.
Good luck!
Congrats girl!!!! Lets hear the proposal story! :) Goodluck with all your planning - I'm sure you'll come up with something absolutely wonderful!

Hello!!
On Friday my boyfriend of three years proposed to me and it was amazing! I feel incredably lucky to have him but not prepared to plan a wedding. When I was younger I thought I had it all planned out, big and magical. But now at 27, I definitely changed my wedding thoughts to extremely simple but still magical! I was thinking on a lake outside, very casual. I was thinking BBQ style, is that weird? I dont know if that's possible, any suggestions?
Since Long Island is way too expensive and more beachy than lakey, I was thinking upstate, NY. The day I got engaged within an hour people were asking what the date was and where will we have it, I had no clue, but I do know that if I want to have it next summer I have to start planning soon. Thank goodness my amazing sister just got married in October so she's completely helping already:)
One thing my new fiance and I are compromising on is the bridal party situation. He doesn't want anyone except for family and I certainly have about 8 girls if I completely limit it. I sort of want a big bridal party, is that immature? Each one is extremely important to me and I was in most of their bridal parties so it's only practical to have them in mine. We're already at a difference of opinion...oops! What is the difference of having a big party vs. small brial party?
Thanks for letting me vent!
Best,
Steph
